With OC-XXXXXes and such...well...

It's in for an overhaul...

Well, maybe we will get faster speeds in soon enough, mm?

Yet another technological revolution offering tens of thousands times the capacity of current technology. After all the multi-hundred-terabyte hard disks and holographic flash memory cards and 400ghz CPUs and so on I'm skeptical to believe the general public will be seeing this technology any time soon.

Also I love how right off the bat both articles mention how quickly one will be able to pirate movies.

It'd be nice to have a movie that fast
This would be nice, although 10 years easily before it's released to the public.

For me, it's either that or a .hack-like experience. :\

This won't be available in the United States soon, and when it is, it will be way too expensive. (See: Cable internet.)

US internet companies will refuse to upgrade, citing "Our precious profits" and keep us where we are until the FCC is made into an organization which can literally smack them into action.

The comments to that article bother me. It seems like about half seriously believe that the supercollider will become self-aware and destroy humanity, while another third seem to believe that they're going to create a black hole and destroy humanity, or something else that will also (cough) destroy humanity.

The only problem with having super-high-speed internet like the one mentioned is when it outpaces the computer speeds at the end of it. After all, if you can only possibly transfer 80 MB/s to your hard drive, how will you download a movie at 10 GB/s?

I thought that was reliant on your hard drive bandwidth as well as the limits on bus.

For instance, a standard SATA II drive does 3.0Gb/s. Most of your oldstyle UDMA gray-cable drives (for older systems than about three years) run at about half or a third of that.

"Working on" may be "just started".

If that is the case, then give it around 20 years, and it may be...even when it does come, it would either cost a lot or be unavailable to the USA (and other contries as well) because of what Metal_Man88 said.

If only, but that requires a bit more than fast connections.

However, with current resolutions, such a fast connection should be able to handle a truly unhackable* online game - one where the logic is 100% server-side, and the client just passes the keyboard/mouse input right along to the server and gets back a screenshot to display. Of course a server capable of handling this... Though on the same note, realtime VNC.

*Barring, of course, those who hack into the server itself.
