Against dumb humans...

I mean that's near-global sacrilege, really. I don't watch it but it is one of the few things that most of the world gets together not to kick each other around for except in sports and only sports...not some dumb Pro-Tibet spiel.

Yes, because a sporting event is more important than human rights...

Holding the Olympics in China was a dumb idea to begin with, but it seems silly to go all crazy protesting it now when it's been known for years...

I'm not for having the Olympics in China, but yea, I think its too late now. I'm still going to watch because I enjoy it. Shame about the torch.

Can't wait to see what happens here... -.-

Seriously though, China was a dumb place for the games to be held. Their actions against their people are well known already, the only reason they're being brought into question now is because of the Olympics.

Way to care about it at any other time, international community.

"Violence for whatever reason is not compatible with the values of the torch relay or the Olympic Games."

Arguably one of the most hypocritical statements I've ever seen, considering.

I didn't say that, but let me clarify...

Even given A LARGE LOAD of prior knowledge to where it was being held (hell, I think it's Chicago in 2016), when should it even matter about where this tradition is held? Why should politics even MATTER about something like this? It's about athletes and sports, not about conflicts and disputes based on beliefs and war and suffering and whatever. Period. It's SUPPOSED to be a time where people come together and get along at least for a little while and tell each other which is the best by means of sports...if you want to do it politically, well you're SOL; that's not what this is about and shouldn't be.

Of course, anymore I guess, anything's a possibility to be taken as a political point to be used.

Honestly China was the first to politify- they've made it very clear through their actions that this Olympics is supposed to help signify a new age and present a better image of China to the world. The Olympics were supposed to be non-political once, but I think that's gone with the modern selection process- which is why the ancient Greeks always held them in the same place, I guess.

Amid all the security concerns, San Francisco changed the torch route away from all the demonstrators and what not. So, why have a torch run if the public can't observe it first hand?

As one person put it, "This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and other people messed it up by protesting."

I am for Tibet independence and not for China's approach on various human rights issues, but there has got to be a better way to gain visibility on these issues without turning things into a circus.
