That's true, but that's just the way I designed it. I use slopes where I see necessary. Sure they add more detail, but with this level, the overall theme was mushrooms, so those pretty much took over as you can see. It depends on what type of level you're designing and what feel you want to go for.

Probably a good example of where I DO use slopes is my last video of 3-7: Gnarly Slopes, Dude! Hell, it even has the word "Slopes" in the level name.

Well, you sure seem to be a stickler for flatness .

Fantastic level, GY. It had an extremely unique feel. Nice touch with the background in the second half, by the way. You used the BG palettes well.

Poochy seemed a bit... I dunno, I didn't like having Poochy being guided through the mushroom zigzag. There's not much you can do to change it without drastically affecting the level design though... Ah well. Though that flower you need Poochy to get was awesome, I'll say that.

The pillars that lower when you hit the ?-Cloud... Were those hard to get to work right? They seemed like they would be.

All in all, awesome stuff. I loved this more than your other YI hack videos. Show us more, hopefully from World 5 next time!

Or actually, hold the phone. I'd love to see what one of your fortress levels looks like...

Thank you for the feedback.

As for the Poochy part though, I pretty much used those mushroom platforms to guide him down to the bottom ledge. Luckily I didn't use any more for that purpose (don't think I'd want to anyway ).

The lowering pillars aren't too hard to make. All you need is the sprite (the ? cloud) and the actual ledge. You do, however, have to make the ledge a certain size, and put the ? cloud a certain distance from the ledge for it all to work.

Anyway, I've refrained from showing anything from World 5, since I don't want to spoil too much (there will be plenty to spoil, believe me ). But I have posted one screen of World 5 earlier:

New Morph Ball item graphics. They also flash brighter to look more like items and less like the actual Morph Ball, upon which the graphics are based.

You might want to retouch that morphball a bit more as I thought there were two Samus for a moment... Maybe removing the lines?

I got that comment before from someone else. Really, it's only hard to see a difference because it's just a screenshot. In game, it looks much more item-y.

Just uploaded this crappy video of some project I've been working on for a while. I just thought it'd be fun to try and create levels based on songs (!) from an album by the band Opeth, called Ghost Reveries. So, if the text box text doesn't make any sense, that's because it's lyrics from the songs.

The way I did it was to let one song represent one world, which fits pretty fine, since there's eight songs on the album, and then let one verse represent one level. I've tried somewhat, to let the lyrics be the basis of how I would design the levels, though it doesn't work that well for all the lyrics.

Anyway, here's the video, and again, I know the quality is absolute crap, and that the sound lags after a while.

This is all just for fun. I wasn't really planning on sharing it at first, but then again, why the hell not?

Much better. As for editing, if you used an emulator with rewind and record functions, you could just rewind when you fuck up and then play back the video.

As for the game itself, very creative level design.

The map so far. Ignore the Brinstar things, I haven't moved them or changed their graphics yet. Note, a little more than half of the blue rooms aren't done yet. I've only created the map locations for them. Also, I'm keeping a few things hidden of course.

(It will get bigger when it's final.)

I just have to say I REALLY like your level design, especially that outside cave (the second to last stage shown), very SMB3 like. I really hope you do something with this, I'd love to play it
