Who wants some Marth?

DONK!

It's nearly done. There's just some minor things not yet finished on it.

I think more people would be looking towards Mother 3 as of late, but I can't complain about this either.

Yea, that's basically what I said to myself too when I read this.

It'll get dangerous here in a few weeks.

My response is (suprise) to just shrug. Big deal.

Fire Emblem is an annoyingly difficult series and Earthbound 2, while probably just as nutty as its cousin, isn't something I want to bother with after playing the original...

Oh well. At least they're translating games people have some desire for, eh?

In Disgaea, you can save, quit, and come back later, as well as revisit old maps and build yourself stronger.

In Fire Emblem, it is a very linear path; you do not have the option to go back and train yourself, so every EXP point is critical. Not to mention, any dead characters are dead forever, which can make later battles an utter nightmare.

There is a very big difference between Disgaea and Fire Emblem.

The one I played was simply called Fire Emblem.

I got into the 13-15 range of chapters, and after my 20-something-th game over, I gave up.

I have been put off from playing any strategy game along those lines since, which is exactly why it took me several months to start playing Disgaea, then another several months to actually beat it.

XKeep, want a tip for that?
When you find an Arena, abuse it to hell. Save state, buy weaponry, win, level up more than two stats at a time, use your healer (or healing pods) when wounded, and repeat repeat repeat. It's easy, just back out and go back in if the fight fails.

So did I, but you can still arena abuse in a relatively safe manner if you trick the game a little.

In chapter 20, you get Ninian, right? She's the dancer. There's a trick you can use that involves using her Nini's Grace dance to increase a character's defense and resistance by 10 for one turn, sending them to the arena, then rescuing that character from the arena before you end the turn. When the next turn begins, you drop the character and use Ninian to refresh the character so they can move again. Because the character was rescued when the turn changed, the Nini's Grace status effect carries over. Just repeat a pattern of arena -> rescue -> end turn -> drop -> dance -> heal (if needed) -> arena and you can level up your characters a ton. Just remember though, Nini's Grace only has 15 uses, though you shouldn't have to worry about running out of them.

Another tip: use your mounted/flying units for rescuing so you can move the characters away from the arena and give yourself space for healing and dancing.

I never actually liked the tower, I prefer the arenas. Just too much extra time involved with doing the tower's maps. I thought no one cared about translating the earlier games though, this is a pleasant surprise. Last time I tried this game I had to use a separate script, it was a pain, and didn't always work well.

Isn't the DS remake a port of the first Fire Emblem?

I'm looking forward to the Namco X Capcom translation myself.

Mystery of the Emblem is a remake of the first game (that reduced the original 25 chapters to 20, and removed a bunch of characters, including my good buddy Rif, who has been sighted in screenshots from the DS game, pretty much proving that it's a remake of the original) with an all-new sequel campaign thrown in as well, continuing Marth's story after the end of the original. The FE series has never ever officially used numbers, but this is the third game in the series, so it's generally referred to as FE3. Gaiden, likewise, is FE2 - there's no "FE2" the non-FE1 stuff in FE3 was based on, the new campaign was made specifically for that game.

As far as I've seen with the translation thus far it seems pretty dodgy.
