Another case of me-having-too-much-time-on-my-hands!

I was bored and felt like coding the other day...

I started thinking about the layout maker that some people use now and then and how it always spits out much more code than necessary, and decided to make my own semi-optimized version. The code it generates is more or less optimized, meaning there's not a whole lot of stuff you can delete and still have the layout look the same.

If you use it and find any bugs, let me know.

I don't understand the core concept behind HTML. It's just too strange, with terms like "div" and "a" that aren't in plain English.

I'm not a programmer, but I at least get the idea behind other languages/etc. Like assembly usually translates to machine-readable code. And hex is used as a substitute for trying to edit files at the binary level.

An example would be the large amounts of layouts here that have a gradient post box to the left and an image to the right. I made a simplified version that used divs instead of using <table><tr><td><table><tr><td> over and over.

To each his own. Some people like signatures, some people like layouts. Personally, I figure a person has a personalized signature to the left of every post they make and don't need one under it as well, but whater makes people happy.

Mine has 686 characters, whereas that one has 535... I suppose that since technically mine has four divs instead of two tables, that would be reasonable. :o

Anyway, that layout looks nice, actually. It's much simpler than other ones, and simpler ones tend to be clearer.

Mine is 1537 characters, but I've got a lot of CSS.

Which reminds me, I'd be glad to take a shot at optimizing anyone's layout. However, I can only do so much without changing the structure. Eon's layout is a good example of this: I optimized the CSS and removed more than a third of the total character count, but there's still bits of redundant CSS floating around in the HTML.
