Probably because cards like these are getting released...

I didn't even know the 9XXX for NVIDIA was that fast approaching...

I think I'll stick with NVIDIA 8600 GT...

That should be a hint to you guys that I'm not the kind of guy to "fap" over Crysis...

Even with this card, that doesn't run at full strength with the current driver set @ 1920x1200.

And costs about as much as a new computer!

It still amazes me that some people will pay half a grand (probably much more, considering how many other parts you'd have to upgrade to make full use of this card) just to increase the size of their e-peener. Do you really need [random throw-away shooter] to run at 300 FPS? Are 3DMarks exchangeable for gold in some parts of the world? Do you get an adrenaline rush whenever your video card causes a small brownout as it converts gigawatts into tiny colored dots?

At that point, it gets to be about the same as tricking out out a car to the best of its specifications.

I mean you know that people have already bought three of these at once, three-way SLI'd it and overclocked the shit out of it with dry ice backing it.

I wonder how much of ATI/AMD and nVidia's revenue comes from such people. I figure the only people who really need these setups are people who really need the power to do their work (i.e. Pixar and other filmmakers).

Flonne, I really despise the people who claim to tell the difference between FPS at those levels, or say having 1 more FPS gives them an edge.

Watch this still become obsolete in about 5 years, like the Geforce 5xxx series (from 2003) are now

My Radeon X700 is still plenty for me, but then my needs are pretty low, when the most 3D intensive stuff I ever run is Ragnarok Online

Naw, see...for that...this video card would be pathetic.

Look here...

The sad thing is...SOMEONE ACTUALLY BOUGHT THIS CARD!

I'm guessing it was a professional doing some big-budget 3D rendering.

With the revival of better and better console games, the video card really isn't a part I care about. My ye olde ATI x550 PCIe 256 MB does the job for... rendering a screen and almost nothing else.

You freaking idiot, of course it's gonna beat two consumer-grade cards! IT'S NOT A GAMING CARD! And how the hell is one card at $2500 "worth it"?!

*Flonne sighs...

I hope all "hard-core gamers" aren't as stupid as you...

Naw, hardcore are the ones that buy that and two more cards and three-way SLI it for over $8K.

Slacking off instead of doing the rendering.

Absolutely ridiculous, someone buying that card just for gaming. I'm fine with my 7900 GS, and it's not even running as fast as it should be.(Stupid power supply doesn't have the extra power thing on it) I'm just wondering if that's his graphics card, what does the rest of his setup look like?

In a few years that card will be just another run-of-the-mill card, probably.

Oh, you know he's got an overclocked quad-core Phenom and 8GB of RAM and four 1TB hard drives in a RAID array and two of those prototype panoramic God-knows-how-many-inches LCD displays next to each other and a 10.1 THX surround-sound system and a liquid nitrogen-cooled recliner with extra butt support for those extra long, sweaty gaming sessions and... . . .
