EvieI has me no teh monies

This makes me a sad panda bunny.

Normally, I try to budget my money, but this year's been a bit... messed up. I bought an iPod when I shouldn't have. I bought some bed sheets and things when I shouldn't have. I bought clothes when I shouldn't have. And to top it all off, I bought a kitten.

Then because I bought a kitten, I had to buy a litter tray, and food and a cat tree, and cat litter and toys and worming stuff...

So yeah, I'm pretty broke.

On the bright side, I only have $850 to pay off my MacBook Pro that I bought last year, so I've nearly paid it off in just over a third of the term of the loan. It was $4,000AUD.

And all my bills get paid well, and I continue to pay off my debts. All the important stuff is accounted for one way or another.

How are you guys with money? Do you have specific savings plans and stuff? I'm usually a lot more disciplined than this...

I don't buy much, I live with a relative, and government grants more than pay for my schooling. I'm content.

I have to cover:
  • Electricity Bills
  • Telephone bills
  • Rent
  • Internet Bills
  • Motor Registration
  • Motor Insurance
  • Health Insurance
  • Home Contents Insurance
  • Prepaid Mobile Telephone
  • Medical Costs
  • Prescription Medications
  • Public Transport costs to get to work
  • Petrol to get to Surf Lifesaving
  • Laptop debt repayments
  • Other debt repayments
  • Food
  • Clothes
  • Superannuation
And pretty much anything else that comes up, e.g. car repairs, replacing things that die, vet for the kitten, etc. Hence I also put money aside into an "Emergency Fund" in case I need it.

:3 Mostly I think I do a good job, but right now ohhhhhh so very very broke.

Over 90% of my money goes into bills, rent, insurance, before I even get to it. Hence, a budget is required.

I don't have the luxury of getting any money, so I can't say I have anything savings plan, but I once did and that's when I usually give it to my brother for whatever he wants.

Now I wish I could earn my own money .

I have a simple strategy for money: half of all income goes into a savings account used only for college, really important bills (i.e. hospital), etc. Unfortunately since my job sucks the result is basically this:

I have no expenses because I live at home. :\

So for the time being, I'm frigging lucky and rich. Which is good because when I finally do move out - and have to do things on my own - I'll have a safety net. That's what I really want, I don't want to rush into things and have to live paycheck by paycheck. If I already have some savings, then I'm good if things go sour.

I have only a few bills, though for medical reasons I'm on disability alone. Which makes budgeting difficult.

You think so?

You do realise that I currently have a bank balance of -$1,000 right?

Hubby went down to part time at his job, which is not good at all. Especially with my car breaking down, I need $200 to get my wisdom teeth taken care of, my 10th year high school reunion is this year and that's gonna cost me, we're still behind on our credit cards from last year, we're still living with a roommate/friend...

Thankfully he got a new job last week and he went in for another interview this week for an even better paying job and he got that.

Hell, I wish we had an emergency fund.

Since I'm still living at home, everything I make just goes right into savings. I'm always on time with credit card payments as well, so at least I'm building up credit in addition to securing some savings. When it comes time to actually pay a bunch of other bills, don't know how well I'll handle that .

One thing I neglect to do is balance my checkbook. I always know what's in my checking account, and I always check online to see my balance so I can effectively keep track of transactions, but as for physically balancing it, eh, don't think I've done that in a couple of years .

And buying a 4000 dollar MacBook Pro...

That's saving all right.

Oh, I 'save' myself but I don't have the money when I need it.

You save but then something happens like car exploding.

Taryn: I'm thinking that you don't have overdraft protection on your bank account, yes?

Yea that seems to be the only thing that ever takes me down. 1500 dollars isn't something I can easily pull up the dough for but I did it anyways...

I am saving money, and even giving it away to my mother to help support the family.

So, while I do have it, I don't particularly use it a lot, except in a few very small cases. As a family, though, we don't really have any money; my money will help go towards basic things like food and such.

Despite never having a regular paying job, I have a somewhat substantial savings account- one of my uncles gifted me some money when I was born, and it's basically gathered interest (not gathering much interest as of late, though... I mean, 1%? Come on!) since then, and I occasionally add more when I end up with large sums of money... I also apparently hold a small amount of stock in ExxonMobil, another gift from the relatives (Interestingly (or maybe not), it was bought as stock in the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey- my grandfather is what you'd call a "long term" investor)

Of course, it's easy to save when you live at home and your parents buy everything for you I'm sure that will disappear fairly quickly once I actually have to, you know, pay for things..
