Not usually, although the worksheets from class include spaces so you can tell where one word stops and another starts. The spacebar is to convert hiragana to katakana or kanji, depending on the word. Without pressing space, the sentence I typed before would've been わたしはにほんごをたいぷします.

Are there a hotkeys to switch to Katakana and change the Kanji conversion mode? I only know of the ones assignable through the control panel to switch languages and Alt+` to switch English/Hiragana. ____________________ |

The language bar moves around less when text labels are off, and probably won't move at all when it's vertical.
I don't see hotkeys for changing the conversion mode, and I had no idea alt+` did anything. However, left alt + shift is to change languages.
