I had one (1) message in Discord deleted and proceeded to make a huge, huge mess about how it was a violation of free speech and how moderators are supposed to be spam janitors and nobody should have the right to tell me not to talk about school shootings

Blocking Youtube? Yeah, let's see how well that works.

They also blocked various web hosting sites, probably for the same reason.

It's just another reason I would never visit China...first the lead paint, and now this.

I am not the least bit shocked by this "news". I kinda figured the whole Internet would've been blocked by now anyway.

I think censoring the internet is stupid. I mean, can't they let the people decide if they want to watch them? Free country, free will?

I heard about something similar to this.

I'm not the least bit suprised about having YouTube blocked in China. The communist government that they have are trying to prevent freedom acts from their citizens and a lot of people in China could watch those videos of protest in Tibet.

Most likely the Internet users there will try to figure out a way to connect to YouTube even with the block.

Remember when Pakistan blocked Youtube and it kept half the world from accessing it?

Yeah, that makes me worry. :-\

Speaking of this, isn't this, what, the third or fourth time Youtube has been blocked similarly to this? It's become somewhat of a target, hasn't it.

Well, when people keep uploading stuff that the government goes apesh!t over...

(not that I want them to stop or anything, all people deserve to know what's going on in their own backyards)

I don't want to sound like a fag but it's bad to force your morals on other people. (i'm looking at all you freedomlovers)
With that said, the chinese make me angry. They're just like brazilians, if they wanted, they could make their country a better place. Yet they just sit there doing nothing. I guess they're happy the way it is.

Yes, but the Chinese (and some other countries) take it beyond the extreme.

What you and most western people tend to forget is that there is no such a thing as extreme. Western morals are NOT absolute morals.

This has nothing to do with morals. I'm saying they take the concept of limiting freedom much farther than most other countries.

Well it's as much about the role of government as it is about "morality", I would say. (The two are not necessarily equal- just because my government permits adultery, for example, does not necessarily make that action correct)

Call it culture then.
The role of the government isn't the same in every country.

Bah, the whole problem with your argument is that the Chinese people have absolutely no say in how their government works. If the censorship and such is just part of their culture they'd vote in leaders who do it anyway, right? And before you say "Democracy isn't part of Chinese culture", I'll point you to the island of Taiwan (which is majority ethnic Chinese to the point where its legal name is the "Republic of China"), which seems to be doing it alright.

And of course, you ignore the fact that there are other cultures within China. (Or is it just part of "Chinese culture" to squash other cultures?)
