Well, I got FL Studio again and after fucking around for 45 minutes I realized just how horribly bad I suck at creating music which really upsets me because making music is something I've always wanted to do.

Problem is, I am so strongly an analytical thinker that it seriously surpesses any creativity I have. I always try to think of the "correct way" to make things instead of just letting it flow. The more I actually learned about simple musical compositional "things" the more rigid and fixed and bad it got. People tell me that I seem to have a good ear for "Sound" and that I just need to practice, but I really do not feel it at all. If I just take a musical keyboard and I just start playing on it with my eyes closed, I can create some pretty nice sounding stuff improv, but once it comes down to putting something on a sequencer like FL Studio, I completely fall on my face. Is there anyone else out there who really stunk at music who got good at it, who can try to point me in the right direction?

For the record, here's the stuff I've made. Everything on the main directory is what I've made (there's some other songs in other directories). Some of it is are jokes so if it sounds obviously goofy, it is. Problem is, only 1/10 times I can actually spit out something like this. I have no melody skill, no chord skill, and I simply don't understand how to do make music. Anything good was, frankly a fluke. It figures, however, that the one song I actually REALLY liked was lost in a HD crash. For some reason, it isn't on there. I'm sure someone else has it, but for now, it's not on there.

Anyways, can anyone offer any help?

As for chords and progressions of notes and whatnot... Try doing some reading. I'm sure that Wikipedia has a few choice articles for you to read. I've played around with music creation myself, (Example 1 and 2) with a program called Noteworthy.. It's for Midis, though.

It takes a while to get into any sort of groove. Do some simple, 10-30 second clips first, stuff that just sounds interesting enough to listen to once or twice (See, previous examples.)

Then again, I've played an instrument for seven years, so I may have a bit more initial training when it comes to stuff like this.

Course I took Music Appreciation in college and from what I heard that was hell to the average joe.
