There is simply no way to make a DS Guitar Hero work.

Also, is it just me or are they really just milking it by this point? This has to be the 5th/6th game in the series, and I swear it hasn't even been that long since the last one

Yea, there was...and there are simulators for the PSP based off Stepmania as well.

Course there's also the old-style NES homebrewn as well.

Guitar Hero for NES would be hilarious, and probably not impossible. I'm pretty sure there's a direct audio input line from the cartridge connector, and connecting a guitar controller to the controller port (or even wired directly into the cartridge) probably isn't that difficult.

I'm not sure it does. The FDS has some sort of sound expansion, but the NES itself doesn't -- it was removed.

That, and you'd have to find some method of hooking your sound chips up properly.


The guitar controller itself wouldn't be difficult at all; the NES definitely has enough buttons (4 + 2 + 2 >= 5 + 1 + 1). One advantage of just using the NES's sound is that you could simply have chiptune music played, and mute a channel whenever something goes wrong.

Of course, the more interesting features wouldn't be quite so easy, but the most basic things (vertically scrolling bar, using sprites for score/life) wouldn't be difficult.

At least, in theory... but in theory, everything works.

Guitar Hero started becoming more and more stale once GHIII came out. I loved GHIII's songlist over the first two but it just wasn't that great...

And not only is there this one for the DS but there is also Guitar Hero Aerosmith coming out as well PLUS there is a cell phone game out already apparently.

This franchise is nothing more than putting songs people know and selling it off of that alone.
