Got this from Colin...

Famitsu confirms Disgaea DS...

I guess it was inevitable, since Nintendo fans were dying for it for years now...but Famitsu has confirmed the existence of a Disgaea title in the works for the DS. Given the title, and if it's original, I have my guesses for content.

If it's right...I'm thinking Disgaea 1 1/2.

I find it curious that for over a decade, NIS chose to only publish or develop for Sony platforms. Despite being 100% third party.

It made sense with the PS2; best selling console in both US and JP markets.

With the PS3, not so much.

Interesting, though. I wonder what it'll be.

Probably because they're smart enough to know to abandon the now-sinking S. S. Playstation.
And the DS has a lot of potential, and developers aren't taking advantage of it.

You seem to have missed the memo about Disgaea 3 coming out on the Playstation 3...

Unfortunately, a lot of the DS's "potential" lies in gimmicks, which (aside from the initial "woo" factor) get old quickly.

I hope they don't do anything stupid with the game because of the system.

Disgaea is OK. I've tried most the games in that series, and a few others of theirs.

Still... The DS library doesn't even begin to compare with GBA in my opinion.
It took nearly 3 years to get a wrestling game, yet it's worse than what GBA had as a launch title. No F-Zero, and lacking a traditional 2D Metroid or Zelda.

Neat, I've been wanting to play Disgaea from all the discussions on IRC, but my limited funds (since I'm still in school and are too lazy to get a job) can't exactly afford a PSP and games for it, so this is good...

Maybe now I can play this series for once . I would've gotten the other ones, but due to lack of money and wanting other games, I couldn't play them.

I don't know exactly WHY... but somehow I have the gut feeling that Disgaea 3 will see a Wii port eventually. Just a hunch but I figure there's nothing that can't be pulled off on that and NIS might be in profit-hunting mode with a hot franchise for all we know.

Same situation (on a larger scale) happened when Square Enix announced Dragon Quest IX for the DS when everyone probably thought it was a lock for PS3. Can you blame them for wanting to potentially sell a crapload of copies? (Which they'll do easily; it's Dragon Quest in Japan after all.)

Translation: G****** I HOPE THEY GET IT TO THIS CONSOLE TOO!

If this goes off without a hitch, which it probably will, then that is the likelihood. But it's kind of odd that this happens now, considering that this series has been going since the PlayStation days in 1999/2000 with Rhapsody and ONLY NOW...about 10 or so years later does it finally grace a Nintendo-based console.

I'm sure if it DOES happen it'll be based on petitioning. Sony was really big at being killer at third parties like NIS and it seems only now that Nintendo is coming around for this franchise. I just don't exactly know the 'why now' really.

Can't hurt really. Disgaea is a game that needs to be played by people regardless of the console. Those that have only played the same name game like FF VII throughout their lives really have no clue what an RPG like this can be. There was a reason I dunked near 200 hours into the original years ago.

Well, even back then, there wasn't any reason to go to Nintendo consoles; the N64 (quite frankly) sucked, the GameCube wasn't popular... Everybody and their mother had a PS(2), though.

Of course, times change, and I wouldn't be suprised if they did have a Wii port eventually.
