The % doesn't exist; i.e., yes, all attacks are always full power and you can immediately begin charging an attack.

Little something I tried out of boredom and lulz that actually turned out quite great.

I like it. Mappy's bonus stages had the same concept; you had until the music ended.



I always enjoyed this, but never thought of putting it in SMW. Nice work!

I actually don't like the Exodome one as much as your others. I guess I would find it more enjoyable if I were playing a level with this music rather than just listening to it... What kind of levels are you using this with?

The Jeopardy-theme bonus room is awesome. I saw on SMWC you said it took you forever to synchronize it correctly... so that means I assume you used a custom sprite with a timer that warps you out when the timer runs out? It would've probably been easier, I think, to have the music never loop, then scrap the sprite timer, and just have it check $1DFB every frame to see if it's 00 (no music), and warp Mario if it is, otherwise do nothing and just RTS.

The only problem I see about that sprite is that I'm not sure if $1DFB resets to 00 if the non-looping music ends. If that's the case, my above idea would not work at all.

Actually, $1DFB resets to 00 one frame after the music starts playing.

Just one, for now. However, from listening to it myself, I feel it suits the level perfectly.

In regards to the 1DFB idea, I don't really think that would work out too well. The timer actually uses a very little amount of code as-is, so for now, I'll probably just stick with that. I already went through the pain of syncing it, so yeah

I see. 'Cause I was gonna say, my idea would've been usable in any level no matter how long the music was...

But then Mattrizzle comes along with THAT piece of info. So I guess my idea wouldn't work at all anyway. Yay for irony. XD

One thing I noticed was that a lot of your songs are mellow, as opposed to action-y. The honest truth is, I used to not like that style of songs in games, until I listened to some of your tracks. :O

I should try making a song for SMW sometime...

Yep, I am still working on this. I still have to alter all the palettes, and make every enemy new, and edit all the levels and other fun stuff.

Drawing everything yourself really slows you down.

Oh those graphics look great Darkdata - especially the castle tiles. They're intricately designed and shaded quite nicely. The star background also looks cool too, even though it seems a little repetitive ... I guess space is pretty boring though, with just stars. Nice work.

On another note, I haven't posted this here yet:



Staccato Exodome. It is devoid of enemies for the moments, as it is just a feature/graphics test. The yellow/green/blue blocks will have a nice little purpose, but chances are no one will figure it out right now. Also, the misaligned block is actually a graphical Thwomp, which you will be able to interact with too.

Finally, I figured I'd better show one of the best songs I've ever ported into SMW before.

F-Zero (SNES) - Mute City

Guess that's it. Comments on either would be great!

Well, you already heard my comments on Exodome... I love Mute City though. It wouldn't fit in your hack, but that doesn't mean it's not an awesome conversion.

Here, I'll post a video now since it's been so long since I posted at this site. It's just some ASM I'm showing off... I've designed the Fire Boots, Ice Skates, Suction Shoes and Force Floors from Chip's Challenge for SMW.

@Schwa: Nice idea with the boots. I remember Chip's Challenge too . Only other boot recommendation I can think of are Ice Boots. Maybe when you get them, if you step on water, it turns into ice blocks, thus you can reach different spots. Don't know if that's entirely possible, forgive me, I've been out of the loop of SMW hacking for years .

Schwa: I've never played Chip's Challenge, but those new powerups are pretty neat- can they overlap? For example, if I have the ice boots and then get the suction items, do my ice boots remain active?

Schwa, those boot power ups are scarily similar to power ups I made for a long forgotten Game Maker Mario Fan game I made. Fantastic Job, they seem to work flawlessly.

As for additional boot power ups, in my game , I also had spike boots (lets Mario walk on spikes, piranha plants), double jump boots, that let Mario double jump and I was working on speed boots that let you run super fast so that you could clear long jumps or beat P switch puzzles where time is of essence.

Your hack looks unbelievably cool, keep it up.

I see 7 sets of boots now. If I managed to come up with the 8th...

How about some kind of Hover Boots? Similar to the Cape, except you can set it to either A: work at any time you want it to (easier) or B: hang Mario vertically midair where it looks like he's still falling, but isn't. (harder, but can make a bit of a puzzle out of it)

Wouldn't it make more since for the lava boots to be a lava suit though? I mean how would boots protect your entire body from the lava rather than just your feet? I could see boots letting you walk on lava, or a suit letting you swim in it. Then again maybe I'm thinking too much for a Mario game. I mean the boots still make more since than a red leaf turning you into a flying raccoon so it's all good
