I thought the major downfall to blu-ray was going to be the fact that Sony wasn't going to allow the pr0nograffy industry to put pr0n on blu-ray discs. I mean, I'd hate to bring that up, but the pr0n industry actually has a big role when it comes to the advancement of technology.

I would say I'm surprised except, that's not all that surprising really.

Though to be fair, Betamax was used professionally up until the digital revolution.

I think Digital Distribution may have limited it's effects here, however...

You say that as if HD DVD was any better in such regards. Besides being made by Sony, Blu-ray has no real disadvantages from HD DVD.

All the firmware problems? The fact most players made right now won't be able to handle newer content?

As far as I know, HD-DVD had a lot less of the first problem, and none of the second...

I'm disappointed, but really only because it's Sony. Neither one appealed to me with their prices, DRM, and general lack of availability. They treated it as if it were as big a difference as VHS to DVD, when it was a lot less. Even though I preferred HD-DVD for being slightly less anti-user, I wasn't planning to buy either of them, so meh.

(Though I am surprised given the apparent popularity of each. I mean you hear "09F9" and everyone immediately identifies it as the HD-DVD key; few seem to even know that Blu-ray discs used the same key. It just seemed like nobody gave a damn about Blu-ray except the occasional HD fanatic who likes it because it can theoretically have higher video quality.)

Nice thing about HD-DVD is that because Xbox 360 didn't enforce DRM when using a VGA cable, you could watch movies in full 1080p easier.

Yes, as opposed to PS3's "OMG U NEED HDCP 4 EVERYTHING LOLOLOL". That pisses me off.

Considering that the trend died out after the digg blowout, I forgot about it until I remembered it. I don't think there's an immediate about that one anymore. All your base was more popular.
