Saying /names #x says there's no such nick or channel. What's the problem here?

I'm pretty sure Xkeeper locked #x on kafuka.

Are there any other working DJBoucheNET nodes I can use which don't have #x locked? I didn't even know locking a channel based on nodes was possible..

It's probably because of all the woefully unstable servers he just added. sigh

Maybe your understanding of how IRC works is a little off. Kafuka.org and djbouche.net have totally different servers and channels, what is #x on one server is a different #x on another.

Bzzt, wrong.

blackhole89's server is now part of DJBouche's network.

Worse, Ailure's hosting a server -- avoid murasaki.irc.djbouche.net like the plague.

There are a few too many "home-hosted" servers like this, and (unsuprisingly) they aren't exactly connection-stable.

It's something I'm fairly disappointed at him for doing.

akai.irc.djbouche.net
murasaki.irc.djbouche.net
momoiro.irc.djbouche.net
aoi.irc.djbouche.net

That's a lot of servers for such a small network, wouldn't you think?

Yes.

I would recommend akai.irc.djbouche.net. Avoiding murasaki and aoi would be wise choices.

This is just from personal experience. Your milage may vary.

This is also why I left Initialized to begin with. IRCops killing users for no legitimate reason.

That was with reason (he was spamming like an idiot in #acmlm).

...however, that does not mean a /kill would be warranted. Ban him just like you would without IRCop privlidges.

Actually, ArBeWhat got an attackback script and decided to activate mine, which caused a loop.

In all seriousness, he only had to kick one of us. And I didn't start it anyways.

*113034 <Xkeeper> there goes the "no power abuse" argument

blackhole89 is blackhole89@opers.irc.djbouche.net * HEIR OF THE TILDE LOLOLOL
blackhole89 on @#akane ~#acmlm
blackhole89 using *.djbouche.net DJBoucheNET
blackhole89 is an Internet Superhero on DJBoucheNET
blackhole89 is a registered nick
blackhole89 End of /WHOIS list.
*113231 <Xkeeper> what was the /kill for
*114210 <blackhole89> Two pages of rapid-succession floods
*114214 <blackhole89> flood* even
*114222 <Xkeeper> so then use kick+ban
*114224 <blackhole89> 20:23:41> * ArBeWhat fucks Tyty210 back
*114224 <blackhole89> 20:23:41> * ArBeWhat fucks tyty210
*114224 <blackhole89> 20:23:41> * Tyty210 fucks ArBeWhat back
*114224 <blackhole89> 20:23:41> * Tyty210 fucks ArBeWhat back
*114224 <blackhole89> 20:23:41> * ArBeWhat slaps Tyty210 back
*114224 <blackhole89> 20:23:41> * Tyty210 fucks ArBeWhat back
*114224 <blackhole89> 20:23:41> * ArBeWhat fucks Tyty210 bac
*114229 <blackhole89> etc.
*114238 <blackhole89> it was not just a channel-level thing
*114306 <Xkeeper> then where else was it?
*114330 <blackhole89> it's not about "where else"
*114338 <blackhole89> it's something that should, in theory, be handled by flood protection
*114400 <Xkeeper> +f
*114406 <blackhole89> and now, kindly, shut up
*114410 <blackhole89> because if he did that on your channel
*114414 <blackhole89> you'd come crying for a gline
*114423 <blackhole89> and scream of operator bias if it wasn't granted
*114426 <Xkeeper> no, I'd fucking ban him
*114431 <Xkeeper> if they did something that I couldn't prevent
*114435 <Xkeeper> i.e., flooding all my users with invites
*114439 <Xkeeper> then yes, I would ask for a gline
*114450 <Xkeeper> but kicking and banning from my channel is well within my power
*114542 <blackhole89> if you banned him from your channel, he wouldn't have a list of users to chaininvite anymore either
*114558 <blackhole89> and it's a network stability thing
*114610 <Xkeeper> hello my name is printscreen you may have heard of me
*114613 <blackhole89> if it makes you more happy, I can achieve the same effect by just uncommenting the flood protection
*114629 <blackhole89> like it's everywhere else

.')

Clarifications:

- blackhole89 (who is unfortunately an IRCop here as well, sigh) decided that, in order to stop a problem in his channel, he would simply kill the users off the entire network, bypassing the whole point of channel kicks
- he also thinks that, faced with the same situation (as I have been more times than I can count, thanks #suburbia) I would whine for a gline, despite prior experience suggesting that I would kick and ban first
- he also thinks that "flood protection is required", forgetting that most IRC servers are smart enough to tell the difference between a 5-line paste and a 200-line spamfest
- - and also that people are too stupid to split things into multiple pastes so they don't get killed for "Excess Flood"
- - and so on
- blackhole89 also forgets basic concepts of computers, like cutting and pasting (well, maybe not cutting ha ha joke)

Needless to say I am, once again, lightly slapping my head in frustration.

(even better, earlier today when I mentioned the IRC networks doing "*.djbouche.net" on whois instead of the server name like they usually do, he thought it was so I could ban anybody using his server from joining #x, haha; I was just going to recommend those users to use a non-hosted-at-my-home-connection server like Ailure's and a few others)

That's fucking stupid, no matter who did it. If its one channel, do a ban. If its MULTIPLE channels then you can go ahead and do the /kill.

Either way, TyTy, I'd strongly recommend removing that script, as well as anyone that has similar scripts.

*120546 <blackhole89> just because the server doesn't have any automatical measures, it doesn't mean operators can't intervene in clearly abusive cases

Except I know it does have automated measures, as whenever the network splits Tina usually gets killed for excess flood (from all the modes; lazy me)

in short,

Allow me to restate the obvious.

DO NOT GO ON IRC SERVERS WHERE BLACKHOLE IS ALLOWED TO HAVE ANY POSITION OF POWER.

Of course, you've already moved a lot. But while Sorcerynet or Dorksnet (no longer unstable, yay!) aren't perhaps 100% what you want, I could probably use my influence to keep both Ailure and Blackhole off of them.
