OK, basically, I want to sequence some SM64 MIDIs, however, to get them as perfect as I can, I'd like to be able to have only single "channels" playing.

Can any one tell me exactly where the pointers are for the channels, and which parts I should change to have, say only "Channel 1" or "Channel 4" playing?

In other words, how do I make it so that it only plays ONE instrument?
This is in terms of just the *.miniusf in a hex editor.

I don't think you can (easily) sequence them. At all.

Because it's a format that revolves around ripping it out of a game first.

Of course, this is a noteworthy question--can anyone generate USFs in addition to ripping them? But unfortunately the information I have seems to point to no.

I think you've misunderstood me. What I want to know is... after I load a *.usf or *.miniusf file, in a hex editor, how (if at all possible), do I make it so that the USF file only plays one channel? I want to know this so that, when I sequence MIDIs, I can hear each of the instruments separately. Basically, you know how with an SPC or GBS file, you can simply "Check" or "Uncheck" the boxes to mute the channels. I heard that you can mute the channels with a USF file, but it requires a hex editor. I can do it with Banjo-Kazooie, but I can't find where the actual channels are located in Super Mario 64 USF files.

Oh. Well, that should be possible, but unfortunately I don't know where the 'channels' are. I do know they had to do something like this to get the Banjo-Kazooie songs not to play all the realms mixed together at once (since they dynamically switch between them based on where you are.)

Actually, I downloaded a level for some program (MUGEN) and it came with a miniusf file for music. I tried audacity, but it has no idea what it is, and thinks it's raw data. Can anyone tell me what a miniusf filee is, and how to convert it to an MP3?

No, I don't think you understand what I mean. I have a miniusf file which is NOT used for a N64 game, and I need to CONVERT it into a format USABLE by WINDOWS, such as an MP3. II have no intention of using the file to edit an N64 game.

Uh...

As far as I know a miniUSF file is one part of several that goes with a library that was ripped from an N64 ROM and made usable to such things as Winamp.

I think it'd take a lot more than just looking at a single file; it'd be many.

... and back to my question? Muting the channels? (Specifically Super Mario 64)

NOTE: I am aware of how to play USF or MiniUSF files with 64th Note or whatever it's called, in Winamp... I've played USF files since they were first around, about 2004.

But, again... where do you mute the channels after opening say....

"Super Mario 64 Main Theme.miniusf" or "Lethal Lava Land.miniusf" into HexEdit/WinHex/[insert hex editor]?

Indeed, I understand the question at the heart of this topic, Ultimate Koopa.

But it doesn't seem like anybody here knows how to. Instead you get topic-derailing replies about unrelated things.

(What I was poking at is 64th note plays USFs, which you can then record into mp3s from playback. IF you cannot understand that, Steve, then you shouldn't be messing with USFs or miniusfs in the first place--they're finicky.)
