In other news, I just swapped out my 10 GB hard disk for a 60 GB! Hooray! Of course, the only reason I did was because it's controller board didn't fix my other, broken 60 GB disk. It basically went from spinning to spinning while the heads thrash around. Both disks have been reassembled with their original parts. ____________________ Are there any My site is mostly links to free software. Guides on using said software will be put there eventually. Sooner if you bug me about it. |

Jul - Post #2271 - 02-06-08 03:33:49am I'd just like to take this extremely long moment to rant about one of the dumbest, but strangely least-mentioned problems with Windows: that a plain usermode app can, with almost no effort, go into a CPU-eating loop so tight that NOTHING WILL FUCKING RESPOND AT ALL. Since mashing Ctrl+Alt+Delete repeatedly, I've had several minutes in which to start my laptop, try futily to kill the process through the network backend, and write this rant, and the fucking thing hasn't even loaded yet.
It looks like this app is eating memory at an alarming rate, which begs the question of why an app that allocates 8 jillion gigabytes in seconds doesn't get terminated. Oh, look, there it is finally. Along with about 32 more instances, which is funny because "Allow multiple instances" is turned off. Also, I guess all that memory just disappeared into thin air, as it shows the app in question using only 2K.   ____________________ |
