Ahh, the internets. Generally... I don't really like the *chans. I'm a wishy washy sensitive type, and so the behaviour of Anonymous frequently rubs me the wrong way.

However, I've been following the recent Project Chanology with quite a bit of interest. I really like these lulz. It is very lulzy. And very good.

Scientology is one of those things that really freaks me out. Sure, it's fun to make jokes about Xenu and the "gullibility test" that The Chaser did and all of that stuff, but the stuff that Scientology actually does is pretty scary. So I'm glad to see somebody besides Operation Clambake doing something on the internet.

This is pretty cool stuff really. The whole thing's become a news story, something that Scientology can't really censor. w00t.

EDIT: And because I forgot to post the old Chaser video (I uploaded this 8 months ago for my friend Venny and haha, it's full of argument comments now...)

Eh, I love Chasers.. but they've got the facts wrong.

Scientology has NOTHING to do with aliens and spacecrafts etc etc.

I hope the people reading these realise what a load of shit is being said about Scn.

It's genuinely a fantastic religion, and by the way.. the reason for being silent at birth is completely understandable once you've actually had it explained to you.
Oh and DID ANYONE EVER THINK TO HEAR THIS FROM A SCIENTOLOGIST BEFORE ENCOURAGING THE LIES?

I read the last line of that comment as "ENCOURAGING THE CAKE." Which is odd, considering I haven't touched Portal for over a week.

I've heard it mentioned a few times in #xkcd as well as various other places (slashdot, even), so.. :p

And yes, it's pretty much all over the Internet. There are a LOT of articles on Digg. I'm not even torn about who I want to win. I like Anonymous much much better than I like Scientology.

While I dislike what 4chan puts on the internet, I cannot help but agree with their wish to preserve free speech.

I guess I'll have to sit back and watch this one. It sounds pretty nuts.

The thing is, they're not preserving free speech. They're denying Scientology their right to free speech. Which I disagree with, but it's.... gah... it's Scientology. It's a criminal organisation which abuses people -- it's own members mostly.

Morally I guess I'd have to say that Anonymous is being very very wrong here too, in denying Scientology their free speech on the internet. However... given all the things I know that Scientology have done, I can't help but side with Anonymous either.

Moral dilemma.

Scientology quashes free speech and replaces it with its own. Under those pretences, destroying Scientology's speech allows everyone else to have free speech. That is how I solve the moral dillemma.

Still, I feel they could have tried a more legal route, but that's crazy me speaking. Technically to me it's two crazy organizations fighting one another, so I sit back and watch, and shrug.

I'd considered the fact that Scientology censor free speech. They censor what their members can access, they censor what the public can know, I believe they even limit the Wikipedia page on Scientology as much as they are able to as well. However, it doesn't quite sit right with me to fight the behaviour with the same bad behaviour.

There has to be better ways to fight Scientology than that.

Obviously i feel a bit more strongly about Scientology than you do. As far as I know, Anonymous hasn't murdered anybody.

Truthfully, I believe the law should be used to fight them, not lawless madness. But since nobody's volunteered to make a legal stand, I guess this is what we get. *shrug*

It's just a problem.

Perhaps, some day, this situation will be solved in a more orderly fashion.

Well, the last video I saw suggested that people contact their local congressman / member of parliament and ask them what they are doing about Scientology's attempts to suppress free speech.

Course, as there is no constitutionally binding right to free speech (afaik) in Australia I don't know how far that would get an Aussie, but worth a try.
