I'm not sure exactly when or how; I remember waking up and getting ready to play my SNES when I saw it. I retrieved some duct tape and plastic wrap to keep anything from falling into it, and kept playing it. It didn't die until two or three years later. I fully intend to buy another one, possibly from an old friend who's considering selling his. ____________________
