Well, I built a program that sends keyboard input to DirectShow. I can script out the gameplay, very much making a TAS out of it. But if there's anything that doesn't always happen the same way, it'd blow my efforts to pieces.

Haha a TAS of it, that would be awesome.
Well, there's no randomness in it from what I've seen, except for maybe the boss fights.

The program it was made in(or so I think I remember) is Multimedia Fusion 2, who's random values apparently depend on button presses and the like, as it supports the ability to record a demo when making it, and play a demo using an event. So, assuming the randomness value isn't changed depending on time or such when demos are not being used, a TAS should be possible, assuming lag doesn't desync it...

I can't believe that I killed myself after beating Dracula...

So the ramdomness is determined by button presses? So I die because of what buttons I press? That sucks.

This will be a cool game to TAS, although I would like to beat it first.

I think this would be the main problem, from JMan's stuff it seems like lag does cause desync with other programs, although, that's recording software, so that's probably much more prone to such issues. There's still the issue of who would want to TAS it, seriously, it's hellish, Tool-Assisted means easier, yeah, but it'd still be a pain in the ass.

Got to The Guy, and as usual with bosses, they are piss hard on the keyboard because you can't fire rapidly enough.

Got to his fifth phase, though. Would've beaten him if I had a gamepad.

Watching the various runs of this game on youtube and playing it for myself gave me the inspiration to attempt to recreate this game's insanity in Sauerbraten.

Naturally, like all things I do, I semi-abandoned it. Mostly because I'd have to do some serious source edits to the engine to achieve a level of insanity I require for me to consider it a clone.

Eh, I dunno if it would've worked as well, some things just need to be done in 3rd person, and also huge screen-to-person ratio, seriously, I think that had a lot to do with the feel of IWTBTG.

Fuck, the Guy is impossible.

Oh, and UltraJMan is cheating at him by having massive slowdown, then claims that the thing is easy. Pfft. Fail.

...What? I don't remember UltraJMan ever claiming it was easy...

His description for the final video is "Once again everybody overhyped the boss...", and I seem to remember some "That wasn't so bad" comments every now and then during the battle.

I think his point was that the boss was easier than you'd expect given the hell you have to go through to reach it. That's just my interpretation, though...

It's still wrong, since that boss is really really REALLY fucking hard, and just appeared much easier than he should due to the massive slowdown he had.

I've made it through the game too. The Guy IS harder than pretty much every other segment in the game.

Well, I gave up on trying to do it on Hard Mode, so now I'm doing it on medium.
I'm currently at the "Wuss" Save right after the two rows of spikes with the zombies on top in the G&G segment.
In a days work, I don't think that's bad. (I never even lost my temper )

After 4 hours and 36 minutes of playing I Wanna Be The Guy! on hard (not in one day), I need to beat one more boss to go to The Guy's Palace. Time to beat a very hard game!

Why do I have a feeling that games are going to be mediocre now to those who beat this game?

I dunno, I think it'd be the opposite, like how when coming off of a kaizo-esque mario hack, playing the real thing results in utter failure.

I already defeated the 6 bosses, so now I have to try to get to The Guy's Palace, which I fail at doing. I WILL become The Guy, but I don't think that the other games will become mediocre if I do.
