Slashdot Discussion
The source code to the original Sim City has been released using the GPLv3 license.
This was for the One Laptop Per Child project, and that's the only place this open sourced version will be called Sim City. For trademark reasons, everywhere else, it'll be called Micropolis, which was the working title for Sim City while in development.

So yeah, this is really awesome. My only complaint is how ugly some of the graphics look. The buildings are ok, but the toolbar buttons are awful, and can't the dirt be changed to a lighter tan color instead of that peach color?

Either way, open source means anyone can fix that stuff.

Also, they removed the plane crash disaster because of 9/11, but again, open source can add it back in.

Now if only they could get the source to SC2k...

Some say they're what landed at Roswell in 1947, and that their right eye sees infrared light. All we know is, they're called The Stigandr.

Wait, that wasn't a joke?

I really hoped it was.

It's the US. What'd you expect? They took out Flight Simulator from the shelves immediately after it happened. Anything pertaining to 'said violent act' is censored because apparently we aren't capable of handling the concept. :\

The only thing Linux about it is the UI. It's still C++, which means it wouldn't be too hard to change the OS-specific commands around.
