A proper ID code could track everything which happens to it, which I consider an invasion of privacy. For someone like me, who doesn't listen to music produced by those companies (I got iTunes, bought a bunch of tunes, then got tired of them and went back to rockin' the music from OOT and Star Fox 64), and for whom such music is a mere luxury, I will simply do without it until they all stop the shenanigans. For I, the paying customer, refuse to be labeled a consumer and will not just take anything they give to me alongside it, because odds are it can backfire against me even if I never share it, ever.

(For example, I like to use my computer to listen to my music. Would copying it to my computer for my use only be illegal in their eyes? How about backing it up so I don't lose it? What if somebody gets a hold of one of my backups? I'm just not going to go there, it's not worth my money.)

It's nice to see somebody else.

I have a nasty habit of scratching out all instances of "consumer" and re-writing "customer" on anything I have to sign and return. Stupid? Yes. Pointless? Yes. But damnit, at least it feels better.

Companies just like labeling people that since it makes them think that we're just mindless morons who buy whatever we're told to buy. (The sad part is that there are several people exactly like that...)

Yeah, I feel practically alone these days. People see the 'newest thing' and leap after it, wheras I see the old thing requiring just a few repairs.

For another example, I see that cars in the old days were made to last, with parts shared between models, utilizing strong bodies, and bits which don't all blow apart in an accident. In my eyes, they are superior for durability. In some cases, they may actually out-perform the new model (except for fuel efficiency and stuff, of course.)

In other markets, thankfully, things haven't gone to seed so fast. Computers become more disposable, but thanks to the 'enthusiast' segment, companies actually fight over how to make the most durable and effective parts. I, as a customer, choose to build a computer out of those parts, using the services of a company which, for a $30 fee, will assemble the computer to my specification, etc.

Just as much as I looked very carefully for a webhost that wouldn't screw me over like the other one did. "Oh, hi, we're shutting down, yes there's nothing you can do about it, goodbye."

If more people just took their money away from things intended to waste it (the Hard drive iPods, for example. Hard drives =! portable, moving them around breaks them--avoid like the plague) then there'd be less stupid products on the market, and the people who made them would rightfully fear the power of the customer rather than feel happy with the consumer who buys their newest product and throws out the old one without thinking.
