So, I've been semi-random crashes for quite a while.
I'm on Vista, and what I get is "KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR".
Apparently, this thing can be cause by multiple things, one of them being bad RAM. So I'm planning to scan using Memtest86+ (by the way, which file do I burn to a disk?).
Anything other than a bad sector (already ran chkdsk or whatever) or bad RAM (I don't want it to be this) that could be the problem?
(if any system info is required, I'll post what is needed)
EDIT: ran Memtest86+, it did it's stuff three times, without errors. Do I assume my RAM is okay?

Drivers might be my best bet, I think.
I don't remember if I touched any drivers before it did it tho. Definitely not new hardware, I have changed nothing since I got this computer.
And of course, Event Viewer is about as useful as most Microsoft stuff.
EDIT: well, seems there were a few "IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 11 (and 9, for that matter), function 0. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance." errors. I don't know if it has anything to do with it,by IIRC, the dates seem awefully close to my last crashes. Not sure on that, tho. (EDIT something: nope, seems 3 hours too late)
EDIT: god Vista you..... $*(#&*$ Been fixing stuff while searching for the problem (hello there Event ID 5007).
So, the events ID of what happens at crash:
Event 7000
Event 1101
Event 6008

7000 is related to a service failing to start
1011 is related to logging failing to log some things
6009 is unexpected restart.
So, maybe see what service fails to start and perhaps disable it if it is safe to disable? |
