Also, Fortnite throws a lot of bots into the games, with randomized two-name two-letter name like EpicGamer69 or some shit, I kinda hate when games do that kind of thing honestly, use bots to pad games and try to pass them off as real players

that's a shame. at least when CS:GO does it, they're pretty clear that the players are in fact bots (they have Bot in the name)

or be like TF2 where last i checked the whole game is overrun with trollbots for no reason at all

Splitgate is really bad with throwing new players into all-bot games and doing a better than usual job at hiding that, makes for an unnecessary feelbad moment when they realize they've only been playing so well bc they're against bots.

on Nanashi's recommendation i started playing Metroid II: Return of Samus and even though it's so difficult i actually quite like how dark and atmospheric it is. it's perfect to play at night in the dark on a Game Boy Light, and it has a really refreshing pace compared to all the slower RPGs i'd been playing

continuing trying to get back the hang of Pokemon sun; apparently i stopped right by the climax of the story. nebby is back and better than ever. meanwhile my team is kinda looking for a sixth member as i never figured how to evolve chargabug (intentionally. i want to see if i can find it out by my own accord, being one of the few details i remained spoiler-free)
not sure what to do about robobot and streaming to my girlfriend, i decided to go back and give triple deluxe a better closure. it's a lovely game i liked a lot for many reasons, and while i have some small gripes with its rougher edges i feel much better about it refamiliarizing myself with the game and giving the true arena better runs. hopefully this makes me in turn appreciate the extra polish of robobot more

being without a computer for a few days had me try out, of all things, sky: children of light. it's a very good-feel kind of game by the creators of journey , which is a game i've always been impressed by. wandering around a world and interacting with other people makes it a kind of unique but beautiful game that feels familiar to the kind of thing i like but also being a hecking phone social game being very unlike anything i've played. i think i'm too shy to feel like i'm playing it properly, but it's still very very nice.

also for some reason i've felt like fussing with glitches in oot3ds. i don't know, it's kinda nostalgic

i'm glad you're enjoying the game! it's hard to approach but an extremely good example of how good the gameboy can be at dark and tense atmospheres and conveying danger and threat

I guess I ought to talk in depth about Super Mario RPG. It's probably my favorite RPG just by merit of having run and jump buttons, but being able to avoid enemies is very nice too. It's kinda dissuading me from playing other RPGs just because I've played this one "first" -- I mean, I've played several PokΓ©mon games before, but beyond that, I haven't really played any others that aren't Paper Mario games. Unless you count The Urbz GBA and the first few minutes of Chrono Trigger. Action Commands timed hits make it so much more engaging than normal RPGs, and if I ever end up making one of my own, it would probably be a SMRPG clone in gameplay.

for some strange reason, yu-gi-oh. master duel, in particular. i'm bad at it. i haven't played yugioh in many years and it's extremely overwhelming. how do i even make a deck.
i randomly got a wicked god card, which, nice? it's been a long time, i don't know what even is a strong card anymore-- a god card equivalent that the effect is essentially "it's stronger than you" seems good, but so much of the game is immense pileup of effects to summon 9 monsters at once and negate everything else that it's hard to tell

also got back to robobot and it's extremely good. like, wow it's extremely polished in respect to the previous two kirby games in the engine. everything feels tweaked to feel much better, the enviromental design is a massive step forwards too-- getting a really nice balance of feeling like proper spaces instead of extruded 2d, doing really nice yet subtle things with the 3d. everything about the game is really, really good, and it keeps pleasantly surprising me.
it honestly is starting to look like one of the outright best kirby games for me.
i am using a very jank streaming setup but, it works fine?

also uh, i guess there's this meme

I've been playing Pokemon Legends Arceus, I played Pokemon games in the past thanks to emulation, but this game feels fresh & it was a Breath of The Wild vibe to it.

actually getting back on track with pokemon sun and holy heck this game is, important. and really good.

the way lusamine is very skillfully and chillingly written as an abusive mother and the way of lillie standing up against her with all the complicated and difficult feelings it all takes is, so very genuine

this is a game i needed to have played as a child

~~

also been playing monolith, which has aesthetics that are very much the kind of thing me and Q would make together

my fiancee and I are finally taking a crack at the 2D Mario games (in order), although we're still on the first one. we were going to play the original releases, but realized that all-stars is a stellar remake, so we've been sticking with that. all I have to say is that these games are so much more difficult than I remember.

Julbench3.1Β Β 94% full, 55K free, 824K in use
(ugh at the amount of dust to blow off of this account...)

Traded in 13-ish games ca. two months ago and got me a Switch with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and have since grabbed several other games both physically and digitally.

Still playing Pokemon Legends Arceus - already some ~110 hours into it and still enjoying it greatly! It's not the best looking game out there - there is certainly some valid criticism there -, but it's IMO very fun gameplay-wise and has a wonderful soundtrack. Plus I do actually like ex. the skies and character models quite a bit. Got 234 Pokemon seen, 232 caught and 216 'dex entries done, tho only one 100% finished so far (Bidoof, of all the 'mons). Haven't looked up much of anything in terms of ex. Pokemon locations yet, or even which ones are in the game period, so I dunno how long until I'm actually finished with the main story (meaning "the Arceus part", so to speak).

Also got and played a lot of Picross S1-3, and got 12 months of Nintendo Switch Online, so I've also been playing Tetris 99 ever so often, as well as Kirby's Adventure via NES NSO.

I picked up a recently-released indie game on Steam called Pompom: The Great Space Rescue. It's a 2D platformer styled like a SNES game, but with mouse-centric gameplay.

Besides being super cute, another big reason I bought it was because of the clever mechanics. Instead of traditional platforming controls, the protagonist (Pompom, a hamster) moves on his own. He walks forwards automatically and jumps whenever he reaches a ledge or step. You instead control the mouse cursor, with which you can place down platforms to help Pompom cross large gaps or avoid hazards. However, you have a limited number of objects you can place, so you have to be strategic about it. Just about every level introduces a neat gimmick or adds a twist to a previous gimmick to keep things interesting. One of my favorites is a minecart level where you draw the tracks. The bosses are also clever and add their own twists to the gimmicks.

The game is pretty tough, especially if you're trying to go for all of the collectibles. There have been a few courses where I died at least a dozen times in one spot. However, with infinite lives and the "second chance" bubble, it rarely feels impossible. The bubble is a feature where, the first time Pompom would die, he is instead put in a bubble. The bubble floats towards the cursor and can collect things on the way, meaning you can use it to get hard-to-reach coins or avoid tough obstacles. You can't use it to cheese your way through the whole game, though. You only get one bubble use per checkpoint and the camera won't scroll while using the bubble. The game doesn't judge you for using the bubble, so you're free to use it to make progress as you see fit.

Last but not least, the game is super cute! Everything has a SNES aesthetic, with graphics and music inspired by classic SNES platformers, especially Super Mario World. The simple art style isn't amazing, but everything is cute and colorful, even in the spooky levels. Despite the heavy and apparent SNES influences, the game still forges its own identity and never feels derivative.

I haven't beaten the game yet, but I'm getting close to the end. Maybe it's because of the difficulty, but this is not a game that I can marathon my way through. I can only get through one or two worlds at a time before needing a rest. Still, I recommend checking this game out!

Played Neptunia Sisters vs. Sisters, it looks impressive on how you can roam around Planeptune and talk to citizens. The combat looks pretty tight, though.
