Most of the older versions had early beta builds soon after the previous RTM so this wouldn't be news, but moving from feature updates to yearly major releases (or having both) surely would be, and seems like it'd only cause more user fragmentation (or too short support periods)
 And while macOS versions did move from 10.x to major increments, it still mostly works like before ... But I'll believe it when I see it, for now the only hint is a recent 22H2 build with another big jump in build number (22557 -> 25057)  ____________________ |

Yea I started digging through there and there's a big difference between H1 and H2 (Nickel and Copper).

It always feels weird for companies to openly "embrace" open source/open standard stuff, like Intel just joined RISC-V this month. That feels werid and very concerning.
I have to wonder when the other "extend, extinguish" shoe will drop. Apple and especially Google already did that to KHTML. ____________________ |

ok my new laptop just came with windows 11 pre-installed and now i see why everyone gives it so much flack, they somehow changed everything and made windows look like some ersatz KDE
i also just don't feel like i can be really productive with it.. hmmm ____________________ β¬

The only thing I use Windows for these days is my gaming PC. I'm hoping I can hold on to Windows 10 long enough that Valve's efforts in gaming on Linux cover my use case enough to switch for gaming completely. ____________________ |

Somehow, I imagine you will be able to continue using 10 for more than a while. They didn't even bump up the minor NT version -- it's still NT 10.0. For reference, Windows 8.1 bumped it up to 6.3 from 8's 6.2. 11 is essentially just a shell swap for $150 and will continue to be so for a while.
Especially since people are resistant to switching over to 11, leading to 10 lasting even longer than it otherwise would have -- the XP Effect. ____________________ |

Perhaps! I don't know how long that will be the case though. Microsoft is shady and wants to push people onto their latest platform, particularly to force us all into signing in to the OS with a Microsoft account, force feeding us built-in advertisements, badgering us to use their other software, etc. I don't even like Windows as a platform, it's just the only option for smooth performance in a lot of games. That's slowly changing (mostly thanks to Valve), and I can't wait to be able to ditch Microsoft completely. It's just not totally there yet. ____________________ |

the OS set in a bit for me, i managed to customise it a bit and change the settings i didn't like and actually i've come to like it, even more than windows 10. StartAllBack fixes all my gripes

| Windows 11 was the final straw that led to my transition to Linux. I can accept 10 as an eyesore but the innovation for innovation's sake features make it so hard to do anything with 11. I only really ever play Doom II anyway. |
