| Link (to 68k.news) I normally don't like to comment on politics, but this was in an area of interest of mine -- energy policy. This is the objective wrong move. Instead of taking the opportunity to modernize with nuclear power and renewables on the fringes where appropriate as France has to great success, the US is dragging everyone behind with fossil fuels that aren't just not sustainable, but they won't even last past the middle of this century, maybe the end of it if we're lucky. Would you set up a power grid that only had 30 years of life in it before you were knocked back to the 1870s? Hopefully, this is just temporary. But I have a very, very strong suspicion that it isn't. I believe someone once said that the most permanent thing is a temporary government policy, and this is one of those times I think it'll probably ring fairly true, because a frustrating amount of people are scared of joining the 20th century. I just hope the 21st suits them better when we're all at each other's throats because of energy shortages. ____________________ ![]() |
