i believe one day, if conditioned right, people will see a Discord chatroom, or any other two-dimensional social network or computer interface, as obsolete, in the same way that most people see a command line as obsolete. i really think that enough pressure can convince the majority of people into adapting to any utopian idea. that will be the beginning of the endgame of disruptive technology, assuming the powers that be really want to push us into a matrix that completely controls us

i think we're in a bittersweet time to be alive. as much as i hate my body sometimes, i still like knowing that i have one... it's why i'd like to believe that there is a heaven, because i know that the most evil of humans will never be able to take that away, at least only dragging our souls away from it

so as much as the world sucks, i don't think i'd want to live a hundred years later, or a hundred years earlier. because i can write silly posts like these on the computer

Ten years earlier would be nice, at least...
Personally, I too would love for there to be either an afterlife or ghosts, that way I can watch how things go on in the world of the living. I'd like to see how people react. Anyway, that's off topic... I do like that people seem to be having a general adverse reaction to social media these days, even if it's just the specific players... it's a pipe dream to want to get rid of all of it, but it's a promising first step. Promising in that out of the thousands of possible ways it could go, a single digits number of them lessen corporate social media's influence. That's better than 0%, at least.

it's promising to see people hate twitter, but it's stupid when i hear every day twitter users bitch to me about how they hate twitter, and they continue to use it. i tell them, "just delete it"... it was like, the main source of my dread, and i cut it out of my life, and now that dread is gone

i have a lot more to say on afterlifes and spirituality, but maybe that'd be better for a different thread than the "Web 2.5 Sucks" thread

Yeah... If you want, go ahead and make it. It'd probably be a good thread.

To get back to sucky things, Chrome-only web """standards""". And for that matter, Safari and then Chrome killing off Konqueror and then taking all the credit for being such """great""" browsers. And now KHTML is getting officially killed with KDE 6 whenever it's coming out, which is just a little less diversity in the web (besides the alleged opposition in Firefox), even if its descendants are the thing that it's helping diversify from. If only people didn't just pile on one thing...

Also, places like Wikipedia, which really don't need a lot of encryption considering most people aren't going to be posting to them, demanding TLS 1.3.

And just... every website template from every website service out there. They're all ugly and bloatware. I realize that I'm out of the ordinary for even knowing HTML, but... it'd be cool if websites didn't have single buttons taking up a 300x150 rectangle of screen real estate, at least on desktops. In any case, their layout and general look are so generic that it makes me kinda not trust whatever's actually written on the page.

paypal's app and website suck so much fucking dick. it's like they are consciously trying to make it confusing to figure out how to cancel all the auto-renewal subscriptions (that keep going even after you cancel the subscription!!!). i'd love to delete it, but paypal's the only place i'm able to harvest money from bandcamp to, for some reason

I wouldn't be surprised... I mean, Paypal doesn't really have the best reputation. I only use it so I don't have to keep putting my details into every other website, and sounds like Bandcamp is going to be one of those places.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
