Just for fun, I did some tallying on my thoughts of every Pokemon generation in terms of the Pokemon themselves, including new forms and such. Here are some pointless statistics:

Most-liked generations: 1, 7, 8 (tied at ~77%)
Least-liked generation: 6 (46%)
Generations with the most favorites: 1, 2 (tied at ~18%)
Generations with the least favorites: 4, 6 (tied at ~7%)

Ranked by like count: 1, 5, 3, 7, 8, 2, 4, 6
Ranked by like percent: 7, 8, 1, 2, 3, 5, 4, 6
Ranked by favorite count: 1, 2, 3, 8, 5, 7, 4, 6
Ranked by favorite percent: 1, 2, 8, 7, 3, 5, 4, 6

XY gave me Diantha and Mega Gard and Tyranitar though. And the broken Talonflame up until Gale Wings was nerfed.

Now we're in super defense generation 8. Like 2 all over again. Just more annoying and without the full dex.

Oh well.

Trying to install Mac OS 9 on my laptop is horrible and I wieh it was less painful. But I still think it's probably a perfect home-user OS, due to the fact it's so lightweight that it lends basically all of your computer's power to the programs, which are the things you bought it to use in the first place.

I wonder if the average length of posts on Jul, or any forum really, has gone down over the years, or not. Sometimes it feels like with the advent of social media and an ubiquitous preference for instantaneous messaging, we've collectively lost the ability to write, well, not even long form, but medium form text.

I agree with your thoughts, Sanqui.

And I admit that I tend to feel like the odd one out for that when I do write forum posts on topics, they tend to be relatively long and rambly.

The irony that this is a short post.

There are honestly no two aspect ratios more indistinguishable from each other than 16:10 and 16:9, but I say this as a 4:3 religious fanatic, so I guess I'm biased. I'm bitter because my 14" iBook G3 is everything I want out of a laptop, fits my lap perfectly, and is also 18 years old, and I can't just go out and get another once it breaks. 4:3 just isn't stylish because EeEEWw CrTS, so anyone with a genuine.preference for it can just go and stuff it.

panasonic made some excellent 4:3 laptops all the way into 2009 and with some models even into 2015. the problem is it's hard to get a hold of them. actually i have two of them i'm trying to get rid of right now, one that's a 12.1" with a touchscreen and a 14.1" (1400x1050).

i don't find 16:10 and 16:9 indistinguishable from each other, maybe this is because of work with photography and video. that 1/16 vertical space makes the ratio between the width and height a bit more pleasant. but that said, i still vastly prefer 4:3. the golden mean isn't really that golden here.

Damn, I feel this. I don't particularly miss 1024x768 all that much (it was easy to find good backgrounds for it, though, holy shit) but going from 1920x1080 to 1920x1200 and back again is something I have always found incredibly jarring.
It's a pain when cropping photos for different resolutions, too: I often find myself making concessions to fit something into 16:9, when 16:10 seems to usually be much easier to take into account. (And of course, 4:3 is the easiest to work with period, given that's the aspect ratio most of my photos are taken in)

So far as usable space, though, I've rarely run into issues with 1080p. I'd certainly enjoy having a 2048x1536 screen instead, but eh, what can you do

(...going from 1024x600 to 1024x768 was a goddamn revelation though, hooo boy)

People got used to Twitter. After 240char or so they're not listening.

Not that it's limited to online or anything. My boss goes into full ignore mode if a customer uses more than five syllables in a sentence for an explanation of what's happened on a job request. Gives it straight to me and tunes the rest out.

yeah i hear this. i use digicams for most of my work so i'm in 4:3 most of the time, but when i would shoot dSLRs i would find the native 3:2 aspect ratio really annoying. i find this to be an annoying part of 35mm film too. why was this awkward ratio a standard? all my compositions in 4:3 feel more organic. i don't even mind shooting in 16:9, either—that feels more organic than 3:2 to me, too.

Car ownership sucks. I'm looking to have to possibly pay up to $1,000 to repair a car that I would ideally like to sell before the end of this year, assuming I can move house to somewhere with good public transit and services in that period of time.

This is money that I need to move in the first place.

The low income trap is real.

Also I'd love a 3840x2880 32in monitor. I have a whole lot of vertical real estate just being wasted.

Been there. Too many times.

Was put into a real hard time back in 2008 when the transmission in my '89 Mitsubishi went south. No CC's to my name or ways to get out of it otherwise and started taking hits with overdrafts that the bank wanted 30 dollars a pop for.

Somehow was able to get a loan from the company I worked for, at the time, for 1800 dollars that I had to pay out a hundred bucks a week for and practically did nothing all of those 18 weeks to get my life back in order while getting a transmission to a vehicle that barely held its weight on the road at around 220-230K mileage at the time but it somehow worked out and I was able to limp along another couple of years.

Then I got let go from my job in 2010 because of the last economic crisis.

Then gas prices hit 5 a gallon in 2011, where my gas needed to be refilled at around 70-75 dollars every 3-4 days because I drove 50 miles a day round trip or more to my current job.

So then I got myself into a barely used Altima for about $14K of a loan then.

Only for it to fuck me over in 2012 when the electronic steering column lock took a shit that Nissan refused to warranty. On a vehicle with less than 60K mileage and two or three years of life.

I thought I was going to be underwater with a $10K loan but I somehow got out of that one with the Corolla that I now have and, nine years later, I've got that paid off and money in the bank but hooooooly crap do I not need that much stress when it comes to financials on a vehicle. And that's just going into the basics for that Altima for issues I had when that started giving me trouble. I'd nothing but horrible things to say to corporate when they let me down. Not that it mattered.

Oh, I can't wait do sell my '11 Daihatsu Materia next year after moving closer to work. Not only will I save money on everything auto related, but I can actually walk the 7 minutes to work to boot.

But I will have to pay slightly more taxes than before, this will suck of course. But I'll pay less taxes more than I save on not having a car.

I'm quite happy with my 3880x1440 resolution 21:9 monitor, I just have my screen tripled for any web or office use. And some space free for messaging applications and Wacup.

I tend to write more on my computer than on the phone, as typing on a touchscreen interface is annoying and I'm still slow, even after more than 10 years with such devices.
OK, it helps that I have a nice mechanical keyboard at home, which makes typing a joy.

I miss that aspect of when I worked two jobs. They were both within a mile or two of the home so I just biked most of the time. Was in some of the best shape of my life then.

50 miles every day on a bike, with no bike trail, would be suicide for me now.

Back in last winter and spring, I walked to work for two months (About 5km distance), had to recharge my cars battery because of underuse ^^.

Can't really remember when I was in better shape. But I stopped walking in summer. It was a wet Tuesday (Or was it a Thursday?).
