I tend to bold for emphasis... sometimes italics

Or in the case where all of my text is bold, unbolding works so much more effectively

(Actually, italics looks much better :p)

A bunch of things depending on the situation...

I'll use ellipsis to go between text when I'm in the middle of talking about something and want to go to the next subject...I'm too lazy to use a period once (or better, a semi-colon).

Using dashes -between- words is another one.

3 BIGS AND A BLINK IS ANOTHER WITH CAPS

It just depends really.

Since my primary medium of online/text conversation is IRC, I'll count what I use there. I use _underlines_ like that since irssi doesn't really have underlining as far as I know, it'll add underlines to _this_ kind of text automatically, though, if your terminal supports it. I'll occasionally say something in all caps, though.
