Aside from a few multiplayer games, I've been playing Mini Metro! It's more of a puzzle game than a simulation game, stations randomly pop up as time goes on, and you have a limited amount of lines, tunnels and trains to connect them. Each station is coded with a polygon/shape, and the passengers that randomly appear will want to go to a station with a different symbol. As time goes on, more of the map is revealed to you, leaving you with more empty space for potential stations to pop up. Letting a station overcrowd means Game Over! It's honestly really fun, I'd recommend it.

At the end of each week, the game will give you more trains and an option between two other resources. I've been aiming at transporting ~1000 in each map (I think there's like ~30 maps total) and so far, so good! Though some maps are a pain in the ass. I'm currently halfway through the maps.

I wanna play that at some point! I'm a big fan of the original, and while the remaster looks pretty stiff in terms of gameplay... it also looks really pretty visually.

Some stuff I've played since I last posted:

Half-Life: Blue Shift - Closer to the experience that the original HL is, but also.... not enough? It's a lot more crawling around in dark and mucky sublevels of Black Mesa. Gearbox showed that they understood the way encounters were designed by Valve in HL itself, but they also didn't really know how to add their own touch that makes any of their own stand out. They can mimic Valve's design, but that's.... about it, I guess. There is no Surface Tension or that one moment early on when you first surface and find hell on earth and quickly return back into the black mesa complex. OpFor was a completely different experience that I'm still feeling weird about. Blue Shift is a serviceable little side thing. Whom noted that one of the best parts about it is the insight it gives into the Black Mesa internal hierarchy (scientists treating guards like absolute shit but also expecting them to do a lot of work while being derided), and I agree.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater - I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. It's really floaty(?) and more forgiving in terms of grab trick timings than later pro skater games are, like really, you can hold a grab til like... the last possible frame before landing in this, probably, and still have the trick complete instead of bail. Levels like Mall and the dam one just rule, they flow exceedingly well and I love them so much.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - This is the one I was expecting to appreciate more than I did, and I kind of want to give it another go soon just so I can see if it shines when I'm more used to it specifically. The way I've been talking about it to other people has been me saying it feels like a really weird inbetween of THPS1 and everything else that came after it, but I've been thinking about it more and... It kind of just feels like a prototype for THPS3. I guess that's a consequence of the fact that it doesn't use the same engine as THPS1 did, and stuff like the floatiness is gone, but all the groundwork and general game feel is way closer to 3 onward, but it lacks manuals, so it doesn't really end up reaching the same kind of experience. That's a lot of words about arcade skating games.

Bioshock - I gotta write an essay about this game at some point because I have yet to find a way to be (somewhat) quick and to the point about what I think. Whom and I decided to start playing this because of a video series we've been watching about Bioshock Infinite, and I binged it over like 3-4 days instead of keeping on pace with her, which was a really silly thing to do.

What I'm playing right now:
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
Dragon's Dogma (kinda)
Civ 6 (w/ Whom)

Streamed that the other night. We played TTT afterwards but I don't think that was recorded.

Call it nostalgia, but someone asked what StepMania was this evening.

Half a decade of off-time for the keyboard and I'm still relatively decent.

i can't play gacha games

disgaea 6 corrupted itself on me again, so that was another redownload. i have otherwise just been letting the game idle in the item world while i do other things, picking up the controller once an hour or so to readjust things

i have run out of high-ran items to level to 9999 without either stealing new rank 40s (of which i am missing most still) or leveling lower-rank items

i have about 5 billion item points and one trapezohefhodron that is at 130b atk. not sure what i should really do at this point other than i guess try to find some dumb strat to cheese the final final boss and his bullshit four forms

i tried rimworld and got through the tutorial but these games give me a surprisingly bad case of anxiety. i think it's a mixture of being bad at micromanagement and decision paralysis. i got a similar feeling trying to play sim city 2000 a few months ago despite playing it all the time as a child

I found I could.

And I saw that you can get to L99M in a single go now with the release of characters in the DLC but it also requires boost tickets to do. Which you pay for. D6/10 is basically learning from DRPG now.

I'm still doing Duodecim research, too.

i have a very bad predisposition to gambling psychological tricks and have a very hard time not falling for spending more money than i should, so i avoid it by just not playing games with that concept at all

there's one tactic that people use that doesn't require boost tickets, it just requires a lot of manual work

- 90 prinnies (or explodables) with the "regain 1 dispatch spot on death by explosion"
- all prinnies at level 1 whatever exp buffs you an give them
- pass the newbie bill that increases exp for low levels
- pass the other +exp bills
- pass the "hog all exp on next map" bill on your target unit
- reincarnate target unit
- go to one of the rakasha maps with 4 gods of destrution or whatever
- have a di on your 90 explode units that basically just triggers an explosion so you get 9 cycles of everyone leaving the base panel and then detonating
- proceed to clear the map (probably)

there are almost surely some other details to it, but the gist is that you tremendously increase the exp gain for everyone due to how d6 handles exp distribution, so you basically multiply the gained exp by a ton, which is then all given to the single unit

it's a little more tedious because you have to pass all the bills every time, and if you goof up and accidentally save then you also have to reincarnate every one of the other junk units

Ah. Yea, that's a legitimate enough reason for sure.

I'll been seeing similar where it's something that racks the combo meter up but takes a fair share of time to do. I'm not clear on if there will be even better evilities that will come out with the DLC or not but, for now, this and similar without the boost tickets is fine. That and you can just leave it alone for a while and be good with it.

Downside is the stat cap requires 640 L99M reincarnations. At that point, we may as well be back to the old-style 186,000 levels for maximum in the original Disgaea for amount of time spent.

maybe this would be doable if they let you di your entire game, but doing it manually (doubly so with how bad all the menus are) was enough to make me stop fairly quickly after only gaining maybe 500 above 2k

it seems like it's far easier to farm item points idly and you can just dump those into whatever item, though you have to deal with the equipment limit first

I gave it 155 hours and called it a done deal. I'll probably have another look here in a few weeks once all the DLC's live.

I played the demo but it's like...every time a new version of that game comes out, my will to want to play keeps going down for one reason or another. Doesn't help I was slightly spoiled on all of it (mostly in the negative).

Octopath was the closest I've been to the original experience and liking it...and technically even that one I didn't beat all the way (last boss after credits because of the 'sudden difficulty uptick').

I might get it on sale but I'm definitely not in the market for it just yet. Only thing similar I can think of in recent memory that I do have in my head to get is Project Triangle Strategy but as it stands right now we don't really know a lot about outside the supposed 2022 release date...
