For some reason, I thought it was "Multiple Member Representation", rather than MMP.
The Australian Senate already uses a variant, but unfortunately not the House of Reps.

The huge tl;dr is is that you get 2-3 members per seat elected. Obviously the 2-3 most popular reps. This makes it easier for smaller popular third parties to get in.

EDIT: I'm also a bit tired, so I'm probably not getting all the facts correctly straight.

MMP uses single-member constituencies, and I rather mislike it because ① it relies on the existence of political parties ② canonically, the constituency elections use FPTP. The Australian Senate now uses the single transferable vote, and before 2016 used group voting.

That said, it is better than FPTP alone.
