We got any poetry lovers or poets in here? I'd love to see what everyone's favorite poems are

Mine is "All Watched Over By Machines of Loving Grace" by Richard Brautigan, who is also my fav poet in general:

I like to think (and
the sooner the better!)
of a cybernetic meadow
where mammals and computers
live together in mutually
programming harmony
like pure water
touching clear sky.

I like to think
(right now, please!)
of a cybernetic forest
filled with pines and electronics
where deer stroll peacefully
past computers
as if they were flowers
with spinning blossoms.

I like to think
(it has to be!)
of a cybernetic ecology
where we are free of our labors
and joined back to nature,
returned to our mammal
brothers and sisters,
and all watched over
by machines of loving grace.

I've always loved Words, Wide Night by Carol Anne Duffy. I can't really think of many other poems that feel like the truly resonate with me as much as this one has, and for so many years. When I read it, I feel transported to so many moments from the past 15 years or so, and with such clarity.


Somewhere on the other side of this wide night
and the distance between us, I am thinking of you.
The room is turning slowly away from the moon.

This is pleasurable. Or shall I cross that out and say
it is sad? In one of the tenses I singing
an impossible song of desire that you cannot hear.

La lala la. See? I close my eyes and imagine the dark hills I would have to cross
to reach you. For I am in love with you

and this is what it is like or what it is like in words.


I also think about William Carlos Williams' This is Just to Say very frequently. It makes me smile without fail!


I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

I know on the surface it seems like such a shallow love poem, and maybe it is, but Nommo in September by Hannah Sanghee Park evokes such powerful emotions in me. The way the cadence flows like the water she talks about in the poem gives a real sense of the passing of time and the things we do to fill that passage.


Also the way its written in pairs of two lines really pulls in the idea of a pair of lovers, with the last two stanzas being in a set of three as the love melts into memory and the dynamic is broken and shifts.


I dunno haha, I just think its neat.


There you exist in water.
Unending sketch and erase

of waves on the sea surface.
Today, you’ll be all the words

I wanted to say: look, they’re so
pretty in that second they

surface. You almost didn’t
see them. You didn’t see them.

Sinuous, so commitment’s
a strange shape to hold and take.

I loved the water of you, the snake of
you, everything amorphous and short-lived,

as I expected nothing to last of us.
But when the waves break I still call them by name.
