I'm digging my way through Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove.

I've completed the main four games 100% now (not going to bother with achievements), and am getting into the Challenge mode. I tried Showdown, but it was trash so I'm not going to bother with it.

I'm starting ActRaiser after picking it out on a whim. I just got my FXPAK Pro, so I'm having fun trying random things out. This is absurdly ambitious and the way it throws together platforming, city-building, god game, rpg, and shooter elements is charmingly overwhelming and messy. It feels so mysterious and endless.

I started up a new game of Breath of Fire. Going to try and get through the first 2 games, as I've already played through the latter 2 PS1 games.

Ace of Spades, that old voxel-based team shooter. It's still pretty enjoyable evem if it really needs more players.

Actraiser is super dope. It's one of those games I keep coming back to every few years, because it just has a strange charm other games don't. Yeah, the platforming is kind of janky, and the city building isn't super in-depth, but the story is fun and somehow it all just ties together into a great, quirky little game.

Double-post!

Been playing Mad Max (2015), and oh boy do I really love this game. It has a lot of the same weird quirks that those other open world games have (What should I do now? Man this is a lot of empty space), but it also has so, so, so much going for it. The car battles and death runs are just super fun, and all the quirky characters and downright vulgar names add a touch of silliness that keep it from being too dark.

It also doesn't suffer from the "quest overload" that other open world games have. There's always a nearby goal for me, but I don't walk into an area and get inundated with five new quests to complete.

I've been playing a lot of Just Cause 3 - it's brainless enough that I can play it around when I've been feeling awful lately.

I've also been playing Pinball FX 3 - I put away my PS3 a while ago and I was missing playing Medieval Madness, so I picked it up because the table pack was on sale.

Finally, I've been playing Tiny Metal: Full Metal Rumble on switch, because my Limited Run Games order came in this month. I've already played it a lot on PC, but it's still quite fun.

past month and change i've been replaying SSX Tricky, with a lot of that time going towards trying to get two million points on the first level with the character Kaori (the meta is that Mac is the best for trick points, but I'm sick of the dude now LOL). tough stuff, but it's been fun! went back to SSX 3 as a side hustle and god, i just don't have the physical and mental ability for this anymore, compared even to like two years ago. so many moving parts, it just isn't my thing anymore. Tricky has more than enough but not too much for my nerfed mental clock speed XD

also recently had a little spate of booting up Minecraft 1.5.2 and dicking around in peaceful creative mode. doing that while listening to music has been the ultimate chill spot for various periods in my life.

I recently finally purchased Miles Edgeworth Investigations for the Nintendo DS! I've been a big fan of the Ace Attorney series for a while, and have been slowly playing through the games for the past few years. While I enjoyed playing Apollo Justice, Miles Edgeworth: Investigations feels so lively and well paced in comparison! (Not to mention the fact that Edgeworth himself is such a fantastic protagonist)

I also just started playing Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen on my PS Vita. I've been intrigued by visual novel games for a while, and there's something about the vibe of this one that has instantly captured my heart.

I love finding games like these whose worlds I simply love to exist within. Such a treat!

Recently, I had to wait around while my car was being worked on (routine stuff), so I played more Wario Land 4 on my 3DS. I finished up the last three levels of Hard Mode, then started Super Hard Mode. I can say that it certainly lives up to the name! I've died repeatedly to the first enemy in just about every stage. I even lost to Spoiled Rotten after purchasing an item that lowered its health down to 2 because of invincibility frames. Grinding for coins was a bit tedious because my only real mini-game option was the face matching one. (No audio for Wario Hop, and I'm not good at the baseball one.)

Separately, while waiting around with my family, I started Mario vs. Donkey Kong, also on my 3DS. It's weird that Mario can't jump high, but I really love how many movement options there are. It's so satisfying to skip portions of the stage with the handstand double jump. I wish they'd make another 2D platformer (doesn't even need to be Mario) with such satisfying controls.

I'm playing R-Type Final 2.

success

it's going well

seriously though, the game is a ton of fun, despite the hell that is Level 6.1. A vertical level in a horizontal shmup, oh joy. Even the Perpetual Bullshit Machine called TX-T Eclipse has a bitch of a time.

It's just a shame that Etherium (no relation to the cryptoshit) is such a bitch to find. It's mostly available in stages 3.0 and... yep, 6.1!

gunman chronicles ! saw a friend or two mention it, saw some screenshots and just thought, why not

and,., wow huh, I really don't know why we haven't heard about this game at all before now
I can't say 'oh yeah it's amazing, a true hidden gem and the premiere classic fps experience' but

[well, we do like how it's going so far, we can say that much for sure.]

I got the opportunity to play through Sonic Mania! (...only four years late.)

As a big fan of the original Sonic games there was a lot to appreciate in it, it's clear the devs knew what makes Sonic fun. The art direction was stellar, it's definitely its own thing, but I think it's a solid, definitive look for Sonic today. The game feels great to play and the level design only rarely made me frustrated. The bosses were innovative but a bit messy. I felt like the ensamble of zones and the story were a bit of a hodgepodge, however. I could appreciate nearly all of the fan-service, but the sheer amount of it took away from the experience. Overall though, I enjoyed it, and I could see myself picking it up again.

Haven't played the DLC, might take me another few years. But with the tempo Sonic games are coming out nowadays it doesn't even feel like I'm too behind, haha.

Just got done playing my first session of a Pokemon Crystal hack, Crystal Clear. The existence of a tool to inject a custom trainer sprite inspired me to do my first bit of sprite work in literally over a decade. Which is impressive 'cause I sucked back then too.

Pictured: Jade and her starter, a Porygon named Maya.

So far it's a fascinating hack. Open-world with trainers scaling based on your badges, you even have your choice of starting town. Cinnabar Island is not advised.

Fun code hacks include: a completely overhauled Pokedex that shows moves learned by level, TM, tutor, and breding as well as base stats, a menu to choose what music plays in certain scenarios (bicycle, surfing, trainer battle, trainer in kanto, etc) with more music unlocking throughout the game...

And my favorite QoL feature in any Pokemon game ever: after your pokemon are healed by the Nurse, you automatically turn to face away from her so you don't accidentally trigger the dialog again.

And:

Here's a full-body shot of Jade. I'm unreasonably pleased with how she turned out. She's based on the Rocket Admin (F) with significant editing, and the head's Bugsy's with the hair redone. Rear sprite is about 30% of Gold's original sprite and custom from there.

smrpg - this game is so much less coherent than i remember. the plot makes basically no sense. and the battle system probably is the simplest out of any one i've ever encountered. this was one of my favourite games as a child, although i would complain even back then that it was somewhat lacking. but now i see it's actually lacking quite a lot. good basis for future mario series rpg games though.

ff1 - i play this whenever i need to just zone out and pass time, often when i'm really sick. this has been one of those times. it's one of the few games where i can just fall asleep after playing it for a while. it somehow manages to be cute and easy without being too boring, simple enough for me not to get stressed out playing it.

do-re-mi fantasy - replay; didn't finish it yet, cute and leisurely plaftormer

rayman - this was one of my favourite games as a kid although i found it so difficult. now i see why: it's very trap-oriented and requires a lot of precision. some of the level design just reminds me of bad smw hacks tbh
