Someone I know came out to me as trans a few days ago, so I've been helping her navigate the new world she's in. It sucks to hear about her suddenly getting hit hard by dysphoria, because I'm in just the same boat, but oh well. I overall enjoy being a help to her, not only do I get to talk to someone but I get to do it while actually feeling like I'm accomplishing something meaningful with my life, which is a feeling not every one of my pursuits manage to leave me with.

Woo, set up my new computer! Kinda. I haven't transferred everything over yet, but I finally have it out of the box and got Windows 10 initialized. Too bad it's just sitting on the floor because I don't have desk space for two computers.
The lights on the inside are spinning rainbows and look like a Save Block from Paper Mario.

Nice! I got some new headphones and they're streets ahead of the cheap crap I had previously. ____________________ Thanks to maple and devurandom for parts of this layout, and to Markeee for the avatar.

I'm loving the official Super Mario RPG concept art posted by the game's character designer. The planned relationships between the bosses and enemies is fascinating. Curiously, no ice-related bosses.

Well that outlet doesn't seem up to code at all. When was it installed, 1977?

No GFCI. None of the outlets have one.
On an unrelated note, my niece really doesn't like me if she's willing to go to the lengths of drawing a knife on me.

I kinda hate how it seems like everything in biology is explained with either "it's attractive" or "it helps the animal fight". I guess I realize that reproduction is the whole point of life but still. Could do with more variety in selective pressures.
Also, I wish I didn't have nearly as much body hair. Even shaving doesn't help all that much because I'm blind and never get all of it.
Welcome to Nightvale was pretty cool. I'd love to do something like it.

| Post #1842 | Today I did some spring cleaning on the hard drive. There were only 4GB free out of 250 so I had to delete some unnecessary stuff.
One of the most bizzare things I found was an half-broken testdisk backup of... some partition. It included files from the malware collection, which I've never stored directly on the laptop since it'd take up too much space, so it was probably from an external hard drive.
The backup itself was useless and took around 2.7GB of space. You'd have things marked as ".reg" files being 30MB large and not actually containing text, alongside plenty other of broken files. Of course, I deleted all of that.
weird

Trying to sync Google Drive backups from my old computer to my new computer is a huge pain. It keeps detecting "conflicts" in identical files that I copied over and generating copies of it. Then, when I delete the copy, Google tries to delete the original, too.

I have more gripes about Google Backup and Sync!
If you sign up for the 200 GB storage plan, turns out you don't actually get 200 GB to work with. As soon as you hit 90% full, Google tells you "uh oh, you can't use GMail any more because it needs some of that space to operate". Really? Gmail needs 20 GB to operate? I don't even have 1 GB worth of emails.
If you're trying to sync files in a folder that originated from another computer, it compares the local files with the remote ones. If there is a single conflict (which I had several of), it duplicates every single file as a new copy. And guess where the conflicts came from? Every Excel spreadsheet that Windows secretly updates the metadata for each time you so much as glance at it.
So, you run into a conflict, what next? You can't just remove the folder from your settings and try again, because it remembers every file it's dealt with. It will only re-download the clones you uploaded and pretend that every other file doesn't exist. I plan to try uninstalling the tool entirely to see if it wipes the file database and lets me start from scratch.

Do I actually have ADHD now? More importantly, will I ever be able to get to a psych that might help, especially since I now have Medicaid instead of real insurance? Who knows~~~ ____________________ Thanks to maple and devurandom for parts of this layout. |
