I finally finished Puzzle Quest, so I started a game of Doom 2016, which features a checkpoint only system, which is annoying as all fuck, as I am of the type that likes to quicksave often before doing questionably risky shit. I've been stuck at the beginning of the foundry because I keep trying to platform my clumsy ass around and keep falling into the lava. So annoying.

Also, my family is going to mini vacation at the end of the month, so I dusted off the ol' 3DS as my laptop went down the shitter (it was a pretty low end model anyway) so I might pick up a game to pass the time during downtime, likely during the evenings. I'll likely buy Bravely Default, but regardless of what I ick, I won't know exactly how to divvy up time between that game and Doom. I'm not looking forward to that sort of indecisiveness in the future.

Now that I actually have the patience and focus to learn how, I've been modifying a private Ragnarok Online server, locally hosted for my own nostalgia and tinkering fun. So far I've been able to add new maps, script a few simple custom NPCs, and modify items.

I also play a few rounds of Gundam Battle Operation 2 daily. If you've encountered a silver and teal Gelgoog Cannon, Gelgoog Jaeger, or High-Mobility Gelgoog, it's probably me. I used to have issues with the meta, but it turns out all I had to do was git goog

...well, I was going to boot up my ol' copy of Distance to help distract myself from my constant anxiety and paranoia, but then after I booted up my heart sank as I realized none of my save data was found because the SSD it was kept on died back in March of this year, and the game only got Steam Cloud support last month.

god, i fucking hate computers.

EDIT: lmao of course right after i post this i found an old save data backup from 2018 thank you past me!!!

Got a copy of Divekick in a giveaway, and turns out it's a fun little game. It's basically a fighting game with only two buttons and one hit kills where you try to divekick into the other player without opening yourself up too much.

gossshhhh I'm so glad people are enjoying the game,,,
hope you keep having fun with it !
there's a bunch of cool stuff still in store for the game that, well..
I, can't really talk about any of it, eheh,,

myself, I've been finishing the third playthrough of metroid prime
that I started a couple years ago.
prime is the one game I can kinda just go back to no matter what -
it's just so fun to play, the ost is phenomenal, and I still adore how it looks even all these years later.
playing it also helped me get through a nasty depression I was in a few years ago..
there's no real way to describe its significance in my life,
but I'm pretty sure it's one of my favorite games ever.

...somehow I've yet to get into prime 2 though. I've started it more than once, just..
I always get stuck at the beginning, nope out of it, and go back to playing 1 again.

I'm starting to feel like maybe life wants me to 100% 1 first ^^;

Long road ahead of me, but lots of fun so far.

I just beat Super Mario Land and it was a complete and total pain, even with save states. I might just not be good at platformers, but it didn't seem to be too fond of the idea of me pressing buttons, given how many times I'd be holding a button down (such as B to run) and it just... wouldn't acknowledge that I was.

On the side I'm also challenging myself to beat Super Mario 64 without doing any of the minibosses and trying to get through PMD: Explorers of Darkness. So far I'm not enjoying it as much as Red Rescue Team, but right now I'm not really playing anything actively.

i finished a game called Monster Sanctuary recently and it was pretty great! it would be reductive to compare it to Pokemon or Dragon Quest Monsters because it has too many strengths of its own, but it is somewhere near them in concept i suppose

every monster has a skill tree that makes them all viable for some purpose or another, and the game is designed so that you'll organically find synergies that you can build a team with. and you'll probably want to, because enemy levels scale by your own and the difficulty can ramp up very quickly if you don't take the time to sort out your team composition. there are still a few monsters who may seem overly important due to their versatility (namely Caraglow and Sutsune) but i found myself depending on them less and less as i thought more about synergies between all 3 monsters on my front line

basically it's a monster RPG that isn't perpetually trapped in the 90s and it's fun and refreshing to play

apart from that, i've just been playing around with this AI Dungeon game. it's effectively an AI that makes up fiction based on the user's input. you can establish a setting or scenario and direct the AI's output as much or as little as you see fit. like, in addition to being able to edit the story text directly, you can reroll the latest AI output or undo to an earlier point in the story if a certain plot element isn't working out

with that said, i sometimes have trouble getting it to organically remember the specifics of the character i'm playing as, so the AI tends to lose track of my character's name, pronouns, race, etc. despite these things being laid out in the AI memory field

skyroads !
..because I've got music uploading right now and I needed something that doesn't need a connection :p

certainly a neat little game that could work well on mobile nowdays, especially given that it's...
kinda just an endless runner? a very basic one, at that - no scores, no power-ups, no enemies, just your
ship, and a track of many colors (some of which have statuses attached to them,, sorta like powers, huh,)

I'd totally love to port it to a console of the era.,, I feel like the hardest thing to do would be that scrolling
routine for the floor, if nothing else? I dunno.,

I started playing The Outer Worlds recently, and since then a lot of people have inundated me with questions about how I like it, only to tell me that they got bored of it really quickly. Like, okay? Sorry 'bout it, but that's a reason I rarely buy games new. I paid <$30 for it and I'm having a great time. I have 21 hours in the game so I'd say that's a pretty good use of the money!

For reference, I use the movie comparison with video games. If I can buy a game and have fun for less than $8/hr then it's a pretty good price to pay, since that's about what it would cost to go see a movie.

That's interesting, since the game is pretty dense with content considering its short runtime. (I think I beat it in about 15 hours)

The visuals were a huge upgrade from Fallout's usual browns and grays, and the writing, while not perfect, still kept me engaged the whole time.

How did you like the companions? I thought the way they interacted with each other was really well done.
For me, Parvati's dialogue and quests were by far the most interesting of the crew, but I'd be interested to hear if other people felt differently.

i used to spend all my vacations trying to beat that game and it's honestly so unforgiving, and tbh it's fairly repetitive too since the levels were made through some algorithm or something. (not actively, but you can see how structures keep getting reused)

playing through FF6 still for the first time, which i'm enjoying.

I will do anything or fight anyone for Parvati. That said, while I want to see what happens in Parvati's story, I'm not very interested in most of the actual tasks themselves, since it's more or less a long fetch quest. The only other companion quest I've done is Vicar Max's, and while I was really engaged in it, I found the ending to be a bit lacking.

But the way the companions talk to each other has been fantastic. It's almost annoying because they always start talking as I'm approaching something, but I so want to hear what they have to say to each other!
