This OS can allegedly run on a Pentium 3 with 128MB of RAM to hand over, though I'm running it on an Atom N270 (which has the processing power of about a Pentium 3 anyway) with 2GB of RAM.

I'm impressed so far. I only found it by chance when browsing the PCLinuxOS Forums, and it was explained as the only distro for someone who was able to fully replace Windows XP with it. While the aesthetic of the XPQ4 project matches almost exactly the Windows XP user interface, it isn't perfect, but for a free project it is considerably impressive! I'd suggest checking it out and installing the XP interface with it.

It does seem to use a network installer so don't expect installation to be fast but after that it works really nicely as previously described.

I've tried it out on a VM before and was rather impressed with it. I'm thinking of trying it out as an XP replacement on a Pentium M laptop like a ThinkPad T42.

Running on 128MB of RAM on Pentium 3 is pretty neat but .....

Is this a Linux distro? Asking because they have not made any mention of Linux on their website which would be strange and bad if this is based mostly on Linux.

It is based on Debian. It has systemd and apt for instance (and it places its config files on the same directories as Debian would).

I did actually end up installing it on an old machine of mine, the Athlonic (which runs on an Athlon XP), but I replaced it with a standard Debian install. You can use either LXDE or KDE as the desktop environment, but I could only test it on LXDE (Athlon XP CPUs don't have SSE2).

Q4OS is indeed lightweight and does simplify a few things that would usually require command-line knowledge on Debian, but I feel like its usage is too restricted. If I wanted an OS like Debian that came a bit more pre-configured for general home use, then I'd choose Linux Mint. Otherwise, I'd choose Debian itself. Q4OS seems to be specific to those cases where you need something that's close to Mint and Debian and that's also lightweight.

The problem is that, if your computer needs an OS like that, then you'll probably have trouble browsing the internet in that configuration, which limits its usage even more. Maybe I'm missing something. I just personally don't see much purpose to it.

To me it looks like a project that does not have much purpose to it but is supposed to look really cool hence they do not even bother mentioning that it is indeed based on Linux and not just that, it is even based on an already existing distro.

People work on a lot of projects that are not really purposeful. Rarely do such projects ever become of use.

Given my current OS is debian and from your post it looks like this is debian, it would be a waste of time, bandwidth and effort for me to go checking out this OS/distro ;-)

Sounds like a lot of current console modding projects. Retro ones (up to gen6) are fine as they add new spins to old classics and won't get your console banned or anything but many mods for consoles past that just seem like a waste of resources that could go into something you'd get a lot more credit, and a lot more overall satisfaction with helping out once it's done.

I changed my mind on Q4OS anyway, the default Trinity interface looks incredibly tacky to be honest... (plus no XP startup sound for XPQ4 :/)

I kinda miss Trinity DE, but also, given how it still uses a fork of Qt 3 and porting everything to a new version would take long enough for that version to become obsolete itself... :-(

You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and

the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
