this happens to me all the goddamn time.

i've learned to just pick up a fuckin guitar and just strum out at least a rough sketchy version of the song before i forget. i'll even do that half-asleep after i've just woken up sometimes with songs i dreamt. sometimes it's hard to do sketches when there's sonic details that aren't just pure melody/chords, but it's better to have the melody/chords of a song than to have nothing.

... that's one thing i don't like about digital music, it's a lot harder to capture stuff that just floats through your head ephemerally because it just takes so much more effort to lay down a tangible musical idea.
