I went to bed last night, expecting a full night's sleep.

I was awake until 6 in the morning.

So does waking up at 4 PM and feeling like you've been hit by a bus, complete with nasuated sick feeling.

Indeed, insomnia does suck. I have it, sometimes worse than other times.

Lately I've been having such bad problems with it that I've been prescribed some sleeping pills. They at least get me to sleep, once I'm asleep I'm usually fine.

It's horrible trying to go to work on only two hours sleep, feeling dizzy and sick, and generally having a diminished ability to deal with daily life.

I have insomnia. Really bad insomnia... To the point where my sleep schedule is reversed. Whenever I fix it by staying up all night then staying up all day. it goes back just a few days later. :/
Lucky for me, I'm used to that bleh feeling when I wake up.

For me it's not just insomnia, it's more of an inertia thing. Getting to sleep can take hours, but once I'm asleep, waking up again can be equally difficult. Sleeping for less than 10 hours at a time is damn near impossible for me.

It doesn't help either that I stay up until the wee hours of the morning posting here.

I've never had insomnia, I can go to sleep easily just a few minutes after going to bed. Although, yesterday my neighbors had a party that lasted until 3:20AM with very loud music, so I couldn't fall asleep until the party was over.

I'm tired...

Well, I got at least ten hours of sleep last night. I feel much better.

Unfortunately, if I want to continue getting ten hours of sleep, I would have to fall asleep at 8 PM.

The "not sleeping" part isn't the part that I find sucks. It's the bit the next day where you have to try to get up and get on with things on nearly no sleep. The headaches, dizziness, general mental confusion and nausea are all not fun.

I don't get the headaches or anything at 3am when I can't sleep—I only get them the next day. By far the worst thing about insomnia is trying to go to work feeling like you've been hit over the head repeatedly with a cricket bat.

Of course, my job is easy as shit most days and generally includes long stretches of doing absolutely nothing, so it's not too bad. I don't doubt if I had a more difficult job it'd be number one.

The times it is difficult are usually the night shifts, and I'm practically nocturnal so I'm rarely tired during those.

I won't do the lying in bed for hours and hours thing often. More often than not I will get up, and go do something then try again in another half an hour. This is apparently what you're supposed to do because you don't want to associate bed with not sleeping...

Sometimes I will stubbornly stay in bed, but now I'm trying to get myself up and go do something quiet and then try again later. Cause yeah, I hate lying in bed too waiting for sleep...

I had coffee for the first time in two years last Saturday. 1 cup.

Needless to say, I was up past 1AM that morning when I wanted to crash, initially, at 7PM.
