I can play WoW on this here laptop at a smooth 25 frames per minute, with enough RAM to make the city of Ironforge load instantly (those of you who play know what I'm talking about). Yet, sometimes, I get Fatal Exceptions, and i have to close WoW. For no reason; I could just be running across the plains, and bam. Error. Sometimes it happens constantly, sometimes, it doesn't happen at all. Makes no fucking sense, it's amazingly annoying, and it's pissing me right the fuck off.
I use Windows XP, running on a Dell. Does anyone have any idea what to do or what the problem could be?

Well, I know WC3 has really bad memory leak problems; this might possibly be related to that in some way, maybe, if they put some memory leaks in WoW too...

This is, in all likelihood, the problem.
The laptop stays on for hours at a clip. I restarted it earlier today, and the errors ceased. Didn't check the temperature, though.
I'll do it again tomorrow, and test this theory.

186 days | | | Yeah. I learned this from my laptop--a 3GHz normal Pentium 4 monster. The problem? It becomes so hot it causes the hard drive to head crash and blue screen errors to laser whatever you're doing.

Yeah Pentium 4 is massive failure and whoever decided to put it in a laptop should be shot.
Go run memtest86 on your computer to rule out bad RAM. |

Try SpeedFan. I find it monitors temperature fairly well for my laptop.
Finding out your maximum safe temperature would be a good idea as well. My laptop's max is 95, for example (though it rarely gets over 85 even at 100% load unless it's on fabric)

| 95 C or F? Mine's normally around 102~113° F doing nothing. Max load can bring it around 140~156° F. |

That'd be Celsius.
Mine generally idles around 30 C (86 F) and rarely goes much above 35 C (95 F) during normal usage, which seems abnormally low for a dual-core Athlon. However, I do have a good heatsink, and the on-die and external diodes are only ~6-7 C apart at any given time, so it should be pretty accurate...

It worked quite well for me in the past, but I'm seriously doubting that this computer's Core is at 5~10C

It might just be that the temperature is offset or being read incorrectly. Kind of stupid, but if you can find statistics for estimated idle and load temperatures, you might be able to tell if it's just offset or entirely broken.

| It's not uncommon for hardware sensors to be completely inaccurate (once I had a reading of 220°F... obviously wrong, any CPU would hard shut off long before that). Sometimes it's a permanent issue, sometimes fixed by shutting down and booting again. Honestly, I can't imagine any single application being "better" at it than any other—they all read it from the same place. |

Not really...the "official" monitoring program for my ASUS board reads the CPU temperature from the on-board sensor, rather than the actual core (which is generally more accurate). I'd say SpeedFan is better in this regard.
