| I have it too. I just don't like the name my version has been given.
It defenitely makes people unique. It makes the weak smart, the strong smart, Microsoft, Google, and the Mayflower Compact. Hell, it makes a lot of damn things. But unfortunately, I don't have much creativity, nor sociality. It seems that mine in specific has a decrease in more areas than legal with very few pros, but every so often I find something that works for other people (Sauerbraten = underground lake). Plus, the things I do, the things I like, the work I do, it's mostly because of my autism. And I like it. (But that's probably because of the autism too, but, ah well.) ____________________ -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Posts = 266 Age = 165 Lv 22 Exp 55775 / 58350 LvExp 5832 / 8407 (69.4%) PostExp = 314 ExpTime = 512.081 |

Jul - Post #2051 - 01-04-08 09:37:15pm What the fuck? My post got wiped out. >:
Let's see how much of that I can bother to re-type. Originally posted by Schwa*shudder*

The heightened senses can be very nice if you learn to use them right. I was always being woke up by 3AM phone calls, until I noticed I could just turn the ringer off and still hear phones ringing in the other room. I never miss a call nor do I get woke up. Awesome. The social skills are a pain but they can be developed like anyone else's can, it just takes more effort. Then the other perks kick in to help out. The creativity and out-of-the-box thinking you mentioned really help one's sense of humour. The added logic skills make things like coding and hacking pretty easy for the most part, which means you can impress people with your programs and hacks and show them how easy they are for you to make things they wouldn't have thought were possible. Surprising as it may be, girls love it when I show them my DS playing animé, finding wifi hotspots, etc. And romantic ROM hacks as Christmas gifts = win. (Assuming the person you give them to can figure out how to run them and has a decent enough machine... ) "I love you" floating in the air in Mario Raceway. It's unique, it was fun to make, and it was the "best Christmas gift ever". Fuckin' right.
, again.
And this time I'm copying my post before hitting Submit. >: ____________________ |

| I was diagnosed with Autism at an early age (according to my mother, anyway.) It's presumably Asperger's.

| As much as you want to say autism rules, I have to say it sucks. Have you ever seen the extreme cases of it? You're lucky you're even able to function.
I know kids who refuse to: talk, socially interact with everyone including their own parents. They refuse to move from their "spots," and when they do move they perform rituals over and over. They will sometimes talk, but only to themselves. I've even met some who are on the verge of entering their own "inner-world." As much as you want to say it rules... it's not good. It's an ailment that one should continue to fight off once they realize it's bad. If there are some good qualities that come with the ailment, one should at least retain these while si,ultainiously purging the bad. And as for the purpose of this thread, what's the point? Is it to justify that you have autism, or is it just to make it aware that some can function with it? I'm sorry if this sounds duragatory, but I'm having trouble grasping this... ____________________ |

| I have a slew of personality "disorders," but not autism, specifically.
Basically I know people well just from talking with them in person for a few minutes. The shapes of their desires, motivations, and fears reveal themselves to me unusually easily. As a result I care about everyone I meet. I share in their emotions, exult in their triumphs, and am crushed by their defeats. That's how it feels to me. If you ask the doctors, I'm stark raving mad. |

I doubt very much that "Autism" in general "rules". Considering that autism can refer to so many things, most of which are severely problematic, then for most it would not "rule". A lot of diseases formerly labelled "Autism" are now being shown as genetic disorders, e.g. the addition or deletion of parts of a person's DNA. Some people with these additions and deletions function reasonably well, but others have trouble with basic things like toilet training, etc, and will never be able to function as adults. They simply cannot care for themselves.
Those with "autism" along the line of Asperger's Syndrome, then you really are quite lucky. ____________________ “...and, in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make” |

Exactly. People with Asperger's are lucky not to have a much more severe type of Autism. As I said, there are much, much worse types that exist. If you have Asperger's, you are one of the lucky ones. ____________________ “...and, in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make” |

Jul - Post #2065 - 01-06-08 12:33:02am Originally posted by Metal_Man88Yes, that was one of the things I forgot to re-type. A lot of mental "disorders" such as this really only amount to different ways of thinking (and probably the occasional odd habit or minor nervous twitch). To call it a disability is like saying your car has a disability because it runs on cooking oil instead of conventional fuel. ____________________ |

See, I don't believe in a higher power. But if you believe you have a specific type of autism for a reason, then that's fine by me.
I still think that those of you with milder forms of autism are exceptionally lucky. I hope you also count your blessings for the fact that you are not affected by a more severe form of Autism. I'm not saying the word "luck" as some kind of challenge to a deity; rather to point out that not all autism is rainbows and sunshine like some of you would claim. ____________________ “...and, in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make” |
