Spent 27 years in the pen for a crime he didn't commit...

Ouch, that's gotta suck. I'd be pretty pissed off if I spent 27 years in the slammer for something I didn't do

It's worse thinking about how many other innocent convictions there may have been.

More than you can count on your head, probably. (Hair count)

At least they're doing their job half right for people who actually did wrong behind bars.

That's a good average - 1 out of 2.

If he sues for wrongful imprisonment, but it doesn't seem like he will, according to the story.

Yeah, I guess...

I don't think any sum of money could make up for 27 years in prison... but what else could they give him?

Who knows? If he gets money, at least it's a reesonable amount. Why would it take 27 years for new DNA evidence to appear. I think everyone would be pissed if that happened to them.

If he has been locked up for 27 years, he will have a lot to catch up on! What was the world like 27 years ago? So he is jumping from 1981 to 2008. Imagine doing that!

Well, of course they have TV and books and whatnot in prison, so they're not totally cut off from what's happening in the outside world...but yeah, to see so many new things with your own eyes would be quite a shock.

I don't know why I put this here.
Sad cases like this are prone to happen in any legal system that has long-term imprisonment as a possible punishment. Unfortunately the only thing I can say is really that any person in that situation should use their time to figure out the best means to appeal and challenge the ruling, alongside perhaps a lawyer. Think if that person had used his time to learn law and get a lawyer on his side--it'd take a grueling long time, but...

...It'd feel a lot better to get out in 10 years because you studied the law and used it to prove your innocence than to get out in 27 feeling like you did nothing and those years of your life were just destroyed.

I just have to say: It's a good thing he wasn't given the death penalty.

My god. There are some really asinine comments on there. Such as this one:

Put a bullet in the head of every dirt bag that's arrested. A few innocents may die but it's the only way to rid the country of these scum punks. The innocents would have died from a good cause.

Then again, people would never be released after 20 years of prison because the system realized they were falsely convicted, right?
