I think this is fake for a few reasons.

The first is, why did the pictures have to be taken from that angle? Also, where is the TV in these screenshots...

Naming scheme changes between screenshots.

Why is the UI so ulgy in the second shot...

Yeah they could.

The "Beta Demo" could be the demo from E For All, where there were bugs present that got fixed in the final version and such. This demo could be that, hence "beta demo."

Best to just bring it to people's attention then. I mean discussion is good as long as you don't flat out deny its existance before any evidence is shown to disprove it. I'm still a bit sure they will do something before Brawl is released, be it a demo, video preview channel, or releasing Smash Bros. 64 on the Virtual Console.

And besides, all these rumors floating around, something has to be true, yes?

Geno, I can understand.
Plusle & Minun? Not as likely, but not off the rocker.
Knuckles? Jeez not until TAILS is in the game! Series order demands it!
9-Volt, that's another example of series order. Keep it together, man...
Wolf would be in by demand, if he is. Idea seems nice to me, but it could go either way.
Ness, Ganondorof, everyone else that was hated, regardless, HAS to stay, in my opinion. By modded movesets or a similar fix, they MUST stay in. Even Mewtwo.

It sounds realish, but some things throw some serious doubt on it. Ness and Sylux come to mind. Plus, I hope it's not real, because that would mean no Ridley. D:

That's a very very dumb excuse to completely rule out rumors. If there is hardcore evidence that proves its false then its false, otherwise for all you know it could happen. I mean this is Sakurai we are talking about.

Seriously, Ness will be in. I can't see them taking him out for Lucas, particularly seeing how they seem similar in no more ways than Luigi/Mario have always been.

Actually, he seems almost exactly like Luigi. He's got the same B-button moves as Ness (except for one being completely different [PK Freeze/Luigi Missile] and a fire move that goes straight forward instead of down [PK Fire/fireballs]) and a bunch of different A-button moves.

Sylux... I don't know. Mildly plausible? And it doesn't even mess with Ridley, seeing how Mario has 3 confirmed characters already (+Luigi, seeing how he's probably still in and Yoshi if you still count it as a Mario character), Kirby has 3 confirmed characters, Zelda has 2, and yet Metroid still has only one (or two if you count Zero Suit Samus as a different character).

And does anyone have a link to the "No reskins!" interview? I keep seeing it mentioned, but I don't remember quite where it was or if it was even real...

That beta demo pic is obviously fake. 776 blocks of what? Menus? You have to download characters and game modes separately, so what are the 776 blocks for?

Also, the Smashboards thread seems quite possible, all the pieces seem to fit together nicely.

I very much want to believe some of what he says is true, BUT I can't see it being true because:

a) No Ridley at all is absurd.
b) No Capcom representation is also quite...odd.
c) Knuckles over Tails....nope, can't see it.
d) Geno, possible since he's popular, but CECIL? Naw.
e) Dixie Kong over K. Rool? That's madness. We already got Diddy, we needed a villain!!! Also we saw a Dixie Kong trophy, so I doubt she's playable.

That doesn't mean I'm not 100% sure I don't believe it...but it just doesn't seem really likely.

Umm, what. The fitting is not something I see, maybe it's because I'm tired and it's 1 AM, but feel free to enlighten me. (Disjointed thoughts ahead!) Sylux just seems like a random addition, only been in a single game, and playing a minor role, I can't see him ever getting in. SMRPG characters? I dunno, just seems like too much of a stretch to me, maybe around the same chance Isaac or Felix from Golden Sun have to be in. Additionally, I don't think Nintendo wants to make any more Luigi-esque characters, and Sylux and Wolf both fit that description. Although Ness and Lucas, and if that's the case then maybe they don't feel bad making more pairs. It just doesn't strike me as valid, there's no proof and it looks unlikely.

Roy was in Melee purely for the sake of advertising Fire Emblem: Fūin no Tsurugi (e. The Sword of Seals, unreleased) for the GBA, released 3 months after Melee. It's feasible that they could include Cecil as an advertisement for Final Fantasy IV DS which came out December 20 in Japan, a month or so after the original release date for Brawl.

I'm still skeptical about the information, if only for the reason that information like this isn't traditionally released, much less without pictures. As it is, it's his (her?) words alone, which makes it tantamount to "This is how I want the game to be..."

(I personally would enjoy having Cecil in the game. He's significantly less godlike than you can make your party in FFV or FFVI, and more interesting than the heroes from FFI/II/III.)

I have a question...

Didn't the Square company split off from Nintendo? Wouldn't that make them third party? If so, then they would only get one character addition. Sakurai said he wanted 2-3 third part characters. So far, we have Snake and Sonic. Geno, has only been in one game, so he probably won't be in brawl. But then again, Pit is in brawl out of nowhere... I can't offer an opinion on Cecil as I have no clue who that is.

But I really don't think Square will get a character addition in brawl.

It's a safe assumption that Square still owns Geno's (and Mallow, and all the other Mario RPG-exclusive characters), seeing how they were credited for his appearance in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
