I'm guessing most of you have have come across the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality sometime in the last days. If not, it's still going on for a day and a bit so if you feel like having an absolutely staggering amount of stuff. I'm also guessing that those who bought it couldn't possibly sort and judge 1600+ items (it was like 760-ish when I got it, how did this happen) if they had all the time and energy in the world, so I figured we could have a thread for recommending and non-recommending stuff you do end up trying.

Please consider that a lot of the items are essentially amateur work (although Celeste and a few other high-profile things are in there), and that there are some asset bundles in there (and who knows what else) but I feel like "is it worth one's time" is a decent rough judgement. Mind that your and another's time might have different value. To start, what I've tried so far:

Recommended: Sky Rogue

It's the roguelike treatment applied to the plane dogfighting genre. It looks cool and it's hard not to do things that look cool, what little of a soundtrack there is is good and it's pretty fun. It's fairly lenient on the roguelike aspects as well, letting you start at a couple of later points, switch between unlocked planes and loadouts frequently, and the only in-run improvements are weapon and plane upgrades. The one gripe I have with it is that it's a bit too easy to die; Crashing into things that aren't small planes is instant-death and some of the harder enemy planes eventually get pairs of missiles that eat half the health bar of even your beefiest planes.

Meh: Abomination Tower

I'm pretty sure this is more or less inspired by Super Meat Boy (never played that, no interest) and it feels quite like a flash game in several ways. The issue is that it feels uninspired: You go up towers pieced together procedurally, but I found pieces repeating within a single 10-lives run and they're very much of the we-must-fill-all-the-space-with-twisty-corridors variety. I think once or twice it's given me situations that were impossible as well. The unlockable heads you can get (by collecting enough eyeballs in a run, I got up to the first 4 heads) aren't that interesting either, but maybe if you're fond of Super Meat Boy you'll like it more than I did?

Don't bother: Mass Warfare

It's a very simple strategy game where you direct a bunch of space ships to conquer planets that periodically fart out more ships, of the kind that I know there's at least a dozen floating online but can never find again. As with a lot of strategy games the main deciding factor as to whether your "strategy" wins is how lucky you are with where you start; Ships can take over multiple planets at once if they're in range, so whoever starts near a clump of planets tends to win while you're doomed if you start in spread out region. Anything less than full control over a planet stops it from producing, which is easy to abuse or lose games to. It's missing QOL stuff as well like quitting to menu mid-game or choosing your side's colour (it's randomised when you boot up the game).

Don't feel like you have to limit yourself to the video games for this thread, if it's in the bundle it's fair game. I'm just not expecting much else (if anything) to get posted.

Contrast of links on my layout isn't that great is it?

One thing that's well worth it in the bundle is Lancer - It's not a videogame, but an excellent mid-crunch tabletop RPG about mechas and pilots in a far future. It has crunchy combat with some fun mechbuilding, while also having nice and simple social/pilot mechanics for when rolling tons of dice isn't appropriate.

Highly, highly recommended (I've been in a campaign for it for six months)

I've finished playing another game in the bundle, so here's my thoughts:

Arcade Spirits

An alternate-near future VN where the videogame crash didn't happen. Sound dumb? Yeah, the premise is dumb. It's mostly just an excuse to have the entire backdrop of the world covered in arcades. It's a pretty traditional VN with the usual sort of structure (relationship/personality mods, etc.) but it's got a lot of heart and knows when to just do what it does. It's very queer friendly, letting you set your gender and pronouns with some basic appearance customisation too.

I liked the characters, it was enjoyably written, it's very polished. I got sucked into the premise and the world and ended up completing my first run by sacrificing my weekend casually playing it. It's positive in a lot of good ways and just silly enough that it ends up being irreverent without being bubbly.

Well worth the play if you like VNs.

I've played some more in the bundle, and here's my thoughts:

The Trans Zone
This was apparently a very quick game jam project, and it shows. Written by two trans women and is basically an interactive short adventure. The main focus is the responsive dialogue based on how your transition is going. The game is ugly, but it is a look at the trans experience. Took me about an hour to run through.

A Mortician's Tale
This is basically a short story in the guise of a VN. It can be a bit heavy as it's about death and working in the funeral industry but it was enjoyable in a good way. Most of the story comes through by the way of personal emails as you work your job over months. Took me about an hour to get through. Was thought provoking and I enjoyed my experience with it.

You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
