You know good and well that the WORM people haven't done anything for months. And they're not getting anywhere. At this point, all we're being paid to do is sit around and shoot the shit. So just get used to it.

This rumor smells like a lot of things but I seriously doubt gerbils or cacti or any of them.

But I mean this is going to be like a multi-hour job and I'm not looking forward to it. Sigh. Multi-tone beep.

Our people: Hey, yeah uh... This is field agent ?D?. I was... Listen I haven't been in contact with anybody in a couple years. Uh... I mean, the last time I was in contact with anyone from WORM was three years ago when the petrol ship picked me up from Bear Island. Almost three years to the date, actually. I think it was, what? March 2015. And the last time I saw anyone from Emtanon was... Oh Jesus, I dunno a year after that. Maybe February or March of 2016 I saw Steven in Alaska and he was saying that AS36 was going to be replaced in a year but he didn't know any details at that point. Ya know I've been in the dark ever since. I have no way to contact anybody. I really need to give a field report ya know. I've been out in the field since the last time I saw Steven. And ya know, I'm at a train station right now. I don't know where exactly I should be going from here or who I should talk to but I mean, what I think I'm going to have to do is give a field report to either Angela or Jay. Ya know every number that I've tried, that I used to use is dead. Ya know I generally use my agent code on AS36 but its dead and our material order or what used to be our material order desk is apparently now your guys's internal messaging system. So I dunno. This is... I know this is a really fucked up situation. Its very unorthadox. We ourselves have had issues even before I went dark we had issues with counter operations and people trying to fuck with us. I'm gonna either have to speak with Angela or Jay. If one of them, or anybody from WORM seriously send me some kind of message on how to get into the new system that Steven was telling me about I'd really appreciate it. Whatever replacement AS36, whatever the replacement is for AS36 or the internal messaging system for WORM I would be very greatly appreciated. I do, fortunately, have the Black OTP so feel free to send me an encrypted message that would be totally fine. I know this is really weird calling Emtanon for this kind of stuff. I know you guys dont really like to uh... Ya know. There's too many cooks in the kitchen so to speak. But anyway, thank you very much. Please, please get back to me on this.

(Angela?): Mmkay, what you need to do, is contact your WORM representative. I had my engineers turn on the SSK receiver, but you've given me no way to authenticate you so I can't give you the access code. WORM is the only one who can do that.

It's working again, but was there some sort of interruption of service? As well, a few messages ago there was a transmission that I'm having trouble decoding properly. My decoder isn't picking up on the auto setting and I'm not sure what is the matter. Do you think you could confirm that? That'd be great.

message #42 was also left from us.

Data in message #30 uses BPSK250, and is character mode terminal session. Decoding it is bit difficult and following is my best guess over several recordings. Also note, that asterisks in login and password are what the server is sending back to whoever is running the session.

I don't have a transcript and it hasn't happened before today. At least, I don't think. I'll start at the beginning.

Emtanon Message board has been totally and utterly dead for me for months. On all the numbers I use to dial and the few that I don't normally use to dial. PM still likes to randomly block numbers from calling because sometimes I could get through with numbers I don't normally call from but that quit a month or two ago. I assumed the line was finally dead and moved on, checking about once a week or so. The last time I was able to successfully call it, there were 47 messages and a few that were either cleverly scripted messages from us or they were from Emtanon/WORM. But they didn't sound great.

Anyway, I called last week on Monday and got the standard British chick saying my call couldn't be completed as dialed. Except it wasn't standard for me as I'm American and in America. I should hear the old Ma Bell chick. Even more weird, the call didn't connect and I heard the British chick. Odd, but has been pretty standard for a few months.

I called today around noon. I just had a hunch to give it a try. It connected! I was unprepared for it and didn't catch most of what happened, but something different definitely happened. I called back after I hung up, better prepared to listen and write furiously. Except all I kept getting for hours was the damned British chick.

I called back a few minutes ago. It connected again. I was ready, too. So, here's what I have:

"Oh, heya! You guys ready for the secret place? We got all kinds of secrets up in here. Secret (unintelligible)... Secret switches... Even secret holes. Heh heh heh. So anyway enjoy your stay."

Followed by the standard Emtanon Messageboard message: "To listen, press 1..."

Even more weird is that this is all overlaid over a song. The song is definitely "Fly Like an Eagle" and I'm pretty certain I've narrowed the rendition down to being done by "The Baker Brothers" but it has been fairly decently distorted enough that I can't pick it up and I don't have another phone/device to Shazam it.

So yeah, there it is.

Edit: pressing 4 (even though it isn't presented as an option) gets you a dial tone. I haven't played around too much with it. If you continue to press 3 to hear the message count, it will still do the "Authorization" thing and then digit 4 acts like the "Authorization" used to. Even though we haven't figured that out yet either.

2nd edit: of course. Now pressing 4 gives "Invalid Entry". WTF man!?

I decided to try calling and experimenting with the Emtanon Message Board following the previous post this morning in order to toy with getting similar results regarding authorization and dialing 4.

I found that 4 only leads to a dial tone when "Authorization" plays, chances of which can be heightened by reviewing the number of messages any number of times until "Authorized" plays again, as previously noted.

During the process, I noted that between the hours of 10:00am through 11:45am the number of messages fluctuated to higher than 50, but were always deleted down to 50. Though as of now, has stayed at 55.

When receiving the dial tone, I dialed 5, which got the general female voice to repeat 55, followed by a hang up. On later experimentation, I dialed more numbers. She will double the first number, but relay the rest singly. I.E: 527 will have her repeat, "5527".

Been a while.

For a while, Emtanon Messageboard gave you an option in the very beginning of the call to connect to different switchboards. It gave you three options and I don't currently remember the names.

Option one and three appeared to be a mirror of each other. When someone left a message on either switchboard 1 or 3, it was mirrored to the other one. At last count, both had 60 messages with the last three messages being blank. The last relevant message I have recorded was an interaction between two individuals with one believing the Messageboard was hijacked and another dude that I call the "Oh yeah" guy saying "ain't shit got hijacked" and generally being annoying.

Switchboard 2 seemed to be unique in that it had a different message count and a different set of messages. For the most part, the messages were identical until around the late 40s. Then they deviated. My last relevant recording from this switchboard was identified by our awesome IRC members as SSTV however my recording wasn't clear enough to decode it.

On Sunday, January 19th, the Messageboard went dead for a day or so. It happened while I was in call, which was odd. Mid message, the line disconnected. Calling back a few minutes later got me a straight busy signal. Further attempts throughout the day also got busy signals. I didn't call again until today.

The Messageboard is back to what I consider "mostly normal". You no longer get an option for the switchboards. The annoying "Oh yeah" guy plays his spiel before the regular Emtanon Messageboard message plays. Pressing 3 multiple times never once got me the "Authorization" message. Likewise, pressing 4 now just says "Invalid entry" and replays the Messageboard message. Going through the messages, it appears as though the switchboards have been integrated and some messages deleted. I have a theory on what happened, but I'll get into that in a minute.

The message count is 60. The last 3 messages are blank. The last relevant message is 57. It is NOT the SSTV message I recorded. That is now message 56. I've heard the noise that message 57 makes, but I cannot identify it. Decrypting the messages never was my specialty, I enjoyed intercepting the drops. I have a recording of both message 56 and 57 if anyone wants to have a go.

Now... My theory. I think that switchboards 1 and 3 were mirror switches for two remote branches to communicate internally. We were not intended to hear some of those messages. Where switchboard 2 was the message system for agents in the field and is the normal one we are used to hearing. Maybe I'm wrong. Emtanon has been known to make silly mistakes and it feels right though.

Small update. 888/MOD/Emtanon Messageboard died mysteriously after I posted my last reply. I didn't call again until January 24th (the day after my last post here) at 2:50pm EST. At that time, it rang forever. My last call on the 24th was at 9:56 EST, and again it rang forever. I called again on the 25th and heard a single ring followed by a disconnect. I didn't call again until January 28th. I heard the following carrier announcement: "Welcome to Verizon Wireless. Your call cannot be completed as the called party is temporarily unavailable". On the 29th, it simply gives a "Line busy" error and tones and immediately disconnects. I've called every single day since from multiple phones, numbers, and VoIP systems and all give me the same disconnect.

I called the last known WORM numbers yesterday. They can be found in the Unfiction archive fairly easily, so I won't list them all out. None of them are active. They all behave identically to how Emtanon Messageboard does.

This will be my last update. It appears as though I'm the only person still interested in this, including the PM's. I know when to stop beating a dead horse. Its been fun. Adios.

Here is the audio for the last messages my last post described. There will be multiple shitty recordings of the SSTV and one shitty recording of the argument. Enjoy. (They're straight recordings as I got them, in AMR format.)

Pretty true. I recall someone saying that this was the end, a way to wrap it up, but it looks like it really is just gone and over.

Not with a bang, but with a whimper, indeed.

I know I said I was done, but I couldn't help calling a few more times just to verify. Everything has been down since I last posted. No change to report for the telephone numbers we all know and love to call.

But I have a hard time letting things go. Especially when I feel there's loose ends possibly that need to be wrapped up. It's been a while since I even thought about this. I was browsing Redding /r/ARG when I remembered something I wanted to look into but hadn't gotten around to doing.

This is slightly off-topic for the 888-854 number that the thread is about, but at this point... Who cares?

A few years ago, user Gwraspe posted to /r/ARG about a YouTube channel named "the hearse". Most of the videos are a computer generated voice that read off strange phrases. Interspersed in the videos, almost always the phrase "Did you know that I feel mentally unstable?" is said multiple times. Also, somewhere in the video is always a string of numbers, sometimes interspaced with letters. The actual video is usually a black background with a white line drawn on it that changes every few seconds. When what I believe to be the relevant part is spoken, the video will change to a brightly colored background with different colored lines drawn on it, making it easy to spot the relevant part.

Normally this wouldn't have caught my eye and I would have just assumed a "webdriver torso" knockoff. However the second to last video seems to almost be calling out to us specifically. It is called "Reformation of Spiders" and the video is very OTP22. There's a sticker proudly displaying "World Organization for the Reformation of Metorology" and some super valid OTP22 music playing. Nothing is spoken.

So, why am I bringing this up? Because I transcribed the important bits in the videos. No clue what it means, and I admit that the voice is so horrible that it can be difficult to understand what is being said. I did my best, and I'll point out where I've either guessed or included multiple guesses. I admit that I had some help. YouTube did a mostly decent job transcribing these videos. I also watched them on an old Pixel 3 that has the "Live Transcribe" feature, so I had two different transcriptions for the same video while also listening. All in all, I think I did a fairly accurate job.

I listened to everything in every video. If I thought that any of the spoken phrases were also relevant, I wrote those down as well. These are labeled 'Possible hints'.

Any discrepancies between myself and the audio transcribers will be outlined in sections called "Arguments".

I have also included descriptions for the videos that seem out of place and require more description than the generalized one above.

Anyway, onto the videos:

So, obviously "Reformation of Spiders" stands out for us right away. But if you guys think about this, it starts coming together. PM has used YouTube before. PM has also hidden messages in YouTube videos before as well. The videos are using obvious encryption using numerical values similar to how AS36 used to do. Likewise, one of the videos messages seems to give out readings that we used to call and check on for the battery. (11v 20 0158 g15,525 bland) And to top this all off, I'm pretty sure ABISM was used in video "8". To be honest, "Did you know that foil, whilst having several meanings can be morphed?" video really does sound like a telephone number, however I checked and it isn't a valid number. I'm pretty certain the tags have something to do with decyphering everything but I'm not sure how or where to start.

Anyone care to help? I might be grasping at straws and I might not be. Hard to say without actually trying and as far as I know, nobody ever did try.

Edit: So I've taken another look at this. I'm starting to wonder whether or not the lines in the video actually mean anything. It would be very difficult to write them down and put them together in any kind of meaningful way. I'm more curious about what I've called color changes in the videos and if they mean anything.

The "Reformation of Spiders" tag makes me curious. "Think about it". "Incredulity" has "some can read" and with the spoken dialogue saying "It is right in front of our faces" makes me think this is something easy in front of our faces. Quite literally.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
