A few months ago I was out at some place or another and I ran across a copy of Super Spike V'Ball. I couldn't remember if I had a copy, but I was pretty sure I didn't, so I bought it. I got home, and, yep, I already had it. Had two of 'em, in fact.

So, I decided to set up a website where I could keep track of what games I had and maybe keep the duplicate purchases to a minimum. I decided to use XML and XSLT because it seemed suited to the task and it was something I remember dabbling with in my College Days(tm). I got something that I was happy with, put it up on wyrm.org (it was the only four-letter domain I could find that was an actual word).

After that was done, I kept coming up with things to add to it. I added a changelog, an article template thingy, an RSS feed, and so on, and now it kind of resembles a Real Website(tm). I'm still playing with it off and on, and I'm not sure that I'll ever have a grand design for it, I'll probably just add things as I think of them and I'll most likely keep tweaking things forever (or until I get bored, whichever comes first)

I think I had to start doing that after about the 300+ mark or so, as I was simply unable from then on to recall what games I even had by memory (and even I was pretty impressed by that, and still am. )

These days I have so many that I have a list of stuff that I -don't- have to make it easier.

You actually have a couple of games that I don't have yet! Not bad, kudos! :3

I had a similar problem: I would be out and about and find something that I didn't think I had, so I'd buy it and it turned out that I already had one (or three), or, if I think that I did have one, I'd pass it up and then later discover that I didn't have it. Both were problematic.

I'm not quite there yet, but I should probably start a wishlist or something of the top X games I want so I can remind myself of what I don't have, but still kind of want more than just collection filler.

Thanks! It took a lot of scouring my local used pop culture stores

It's kind of annoying that yard sales and thrift stores don't really have much in the way of video games at all nowadays, at least around here. eBay is kind of a blessing and a curse in that area, since the games tend to go for about what they're worth rather than someone at a yard sale selling a copy of GunNac for 50¢ because they found it in the attic when they moved in and just want to get rid of the thing.
