Let's talk about unusual pets! I don't mean uncommon pets such as snakes or horses, I mean animals that most people wouldn't consider as a pet. Common farm animals count, but not in the context of a farm.

Now, obviously, taking care of an unusual pet can be a lot of work, especially with exotic pets. For the sake of having fun, let's assume we're capable of raising these animals. Forget about stuff like allergies, housing, fitness, etc.

Needless to say, we're talking real animals only.


My personal picks are bat, ferret, fox, otter, and owl. I don't think I could pick just one favorite. Bats are small and neat, ferrets are cute and silly, foxes are beautiful, otters are cuddly and good swimmers, owls are pretty and majestic. If I had a bat and an owl along with a black cat, it would be Halloween for me all year 'round!

Apparently birds outside the range of finches, parakeets and cockatiel qualifies as an exotic.

With that being said, Indian Ringnecks are my pick. Then again, hanging around a perpetual three-year-old masquerading as an exotic parrot for 20, 30 years might be a little much, but they're also sweethearts when properly cared for.

Edit: Pigeons are also great, supposedly they're one of the few pets that are incredibly docile with people younger than 10.

That reminds me of something I forgot to include in my list: a raven! They're really pretty and clever, even if their voices aren't as pretty as most other birds. Plus, it would add to my Halloween crew...

i'd like to have a duck again one day when i'm not living in an apartment

also pigeons are pretty good! a good friend of mine has ... sort of related? a mourning dove and a ringneck dove who are sweet even if ... one (the male) is extremely stupid and doesn't understand object permanence

I'd be happy with birds (maybe not one that easily reaches the hearing damage threshold) because I love birds a lot and they're great. I'd love a bunch of finches and stuff, but maybe also a duck or a goose or even a swan.

If we assume I can keep it though....baaaaaaaats. Bats bats bats bats bats!

They're hecking cute and wriggly and have cute but scary teeth.
