Userbar Slot 1You see, when I stretch my layout, it looks ugly because of the colors. How can I make it that I get the scroll arrows on the side so I can scroll down in my main posts instead of stretching?

Userbar Slot 1You mean you don't want it to stretch?

LIKE THIS?

Oh wait I see why. You are using a picture for the color. Um... why? Even then just take the background, double the height, copy and paste the original gradient and flip it vertically. It will tile then. Otherwise your post with a scrollbar will look small and horrible.

Another possibility would be to use CSS properties and disable vertical background repeat ("background:url(...) #...... top repeat-x") so it shows a background color instead, then it wouldn't look bad stretched ...

At least it's not yet another small fixed width scrolling layout like the annoying trend we've seen 4-5 years ago

Userbar Slot 1Well, the problem is that I don't know HTML. A friend made it for me but he couldn't make that arrow scroll thing. But thank you guys for the help.

Edit: Can be trashed now.

FYI, those scrolling layouts are really annoying.

Userbar Slot 1It is necessary for layouts where repeating gets ugly.

Yeah if you really want to piss off Xkeeper, then go right ahead and make it a scrolling layout.

Fixed.

No, there's no reason to use scrolling. If it doesn't stretch, find a way to make it stretch. In your case, as mentioned, doubling the height of the images and mirroring them would do it.

It's just laziness- if your background doesn't work, then change the background...

I don't know why I put this here.
You could just make a very tall but 1 pixel wide gradient set to repeat horizontally... then in all cases except some insanely long post, it'd never be fully used up, and if it did, well, it could fade into black or white, which could then be the color of the background beyond it.

Vertical scrolling layouts tend to be killed very quickly.

I have the bottom of my background on my layout using something similar to what Ace said. It merges into black.

The only other option I can think of is making it to where the image stretches nicely to the way your post size is. I'm not sure if that's possible with CSS or not. DirectX-basing, yes...but that has a tendency to fail in things like FF.

Unfortunately, no, you need at least Javascript and most likely IE-only functions to do that. CSS3 is supposed to add this, or so I've heard.

Needs more padding.

And don't ever make scroll layouts. There's just no excuse.

Too retarded? Because you were told—by multiple people—not to create a scrolling layout?

I don't want to stifle your self-expression, but scrolling layouts are a bad idea. ANYTHING that requires additional effort on behalf of your end-users is a bad idea.

When you write on the internet, you want others to read it, don't you?

If you want people to read what you have written, then make it as easy as possible for others to do so. Don't make it harder for them by imposing user-unfriendly interfaces.

Other people here have suggested some very good fixes for the layout. I would suggest you take their advice.

The long and the short of it is it's over his head and he doesn't wanna break it with further mallets over said head.

I assumed so, but I don't like the attitude regardless. If he doesn't know what we're talking about he could have looked at it as a learning experience and asked us to help him out with it. Instead it's "too retarded" ?
