Oh Gen Z are great and entertaining the everloving shit out of me.

But I'm Gen X/Millennial cusp so don't mind me. I'm either the absolute baby of Gen X or the old fart of Millennials, born in 1980.

My youngest older half-sister was also born in 1980.

Personally I firmly believe she's a late Gen Xer. :p

That "training for capitalism" all ties in to something I hate and that hate has only been growing, which is that anything non-optimal about someone is considered a fault to be overcome. I was in a writing course some weeks ago and they drew a distinction between people who come up the thing they want to write before they actually write anything and those who come up with a plan as they write.

Then they suggest that the associative group should try to plan more and the planning group to "allow" themselves some more associative freedom. Because apparently having different ways of going about things is not enough, you've got to be able to do everything.

I guess millenials are going to ruin everything at some point if you just keep raising your expectations.

In that vein:

Baby boomers/good chunk of Gen Xers: "We're going to prepare the everloving shit out of millennials/Gen Z by shoving as many skills and ideas into their still-developing brains as possible so they can participate in this capitalist rat race!"

Millennials/Gen Z: "(Became the most educated generation in history, offers potential solutions to global problems, etc., cites socialism as a healthier model,)

Baby boomers/good chunk of Gen Xers: "Ew no not that"

You do have to realize though, that the Baby Boomers' time on Earth is finite, we could still be lucky and something buys us just enough time to pull off a 23rd hour deal to fix the climate and get the Earth back on track (or we eventually discover time travel or go faster than light, but don't hold your breath on either )

I do understand that millennials are ruining cigarettes but OTOH I consider that a good thing, considering cigarettes killed my aunt But OTOH I don't really consider vaping a good alternative unless you're using them to quit smoking

I've seen someone suggest a little while ago that maybe so many people have mental health diagnoses these days is because capitalism leaves so little room for error anymore. I wonder how much of that is true, and how much shite capitalism is actually causing.

Even though I quit smoking 11 years ago, occasionally I get tempted to start again even to this day because of the state of the world over these past several years or longer At this point somehow I've given up on the world recovering at least while I'm still young, but OTOH maybe they'll figure out stuff like deaging or cryonics too? Trying to be optimistic can be hard at times

I know my mental health is generally a lot better when I'm not constantly stressing over exams and homework and internships and my GPA. It's crap that I literally can't afford to fail because of student loans, I have very little time to study because I need to work a job to even be able to afford to go here, and I constantly feel guilty every time I try to relax because I should be studying.

Well, I know even as a stay at home mum (something very much devalued by capitalist society), I still find there's little to no room for error. People make it very clear (but in subtle ways) that my way of existing in the world is wrong.

fwiw stay at home moms are quite fundamental to the present capitalist system. it's a form of labour that's unpaid, it's always been unpaid and taken for granted, and basically gets no security. the point i'm trying to make being that stay at home moms have it quite bad and it's overlooked.

Oh yes, capitalist society definitely reaps all kinds of benefits, while also encouraging a kind of sneering down the nose thing, as if stay at home mums are not productive members of society. It's... fucking... peachy. In Australia, our current government wants to start punishing mums who are taking care of young children, because anything that's not paid work is apparently not work or something. As if mums need more to worry about. The whole thing makes me insanely angry, only in a way where I'm too tired to be very angry and I'm going to bed now.

Yikes, that sucks.

At least here in Sweden stay at home parents get some form of grant, while it's not amazing or anything, at least that's something.

i feel the same way and i'm pretty firmly in the millennial camp (born '91, basically the median)

i've been playing TF2 again lately and there's so much goofy memery from probably a lotta older gen z kids, it's great. there's already been a couple people with trans flag avs and people coming in just to debate trans crap getting basically brickwalled verbally by everyone showing trans support and it gives me hope

people are so polite too and there's this sense of camaraderie that i'm not used to. when i was a kid playing TF2 everyone on it was an asshole to each other cuz they were salty but now pretty much everyone's only salty about random crits (which is deserved, tbh)

what i'm saying is that teens these days are smarter and more powerful than us grandma and grandpa millennials and they're only going to get stronger. watch the fuck out
