I seem to have missed the bus about the Metal Slug games. BMF got it by chance using MAME's Random selection tonight, and... well, it's definitely the next game on our list to play

It's incredibly well animated, and the level design leaves nothing to be desired. The fact it's only 100MB or so makes this even more suprising, considering most (several GB) games these days haven't really caused that much of a desire to play in me in quite some time...

So, dare I ask, anybody else played this game? Maybe you can share some tips on not dying in the first ten seconds like BMF seems to do

Hey, I can't help it if Fio's a bullet magnet!

(I refuse to keep track of how many "quarters" I spend on this game)

I played all the other Metal Slug games, but not MS6. The best bet is to study how the enemies come to you, I try not to go straight into battle, sometimes going through the levels little by little helps. ^^'

I have the Anthology for Wii, it's a sweet series that I used to play in the arcade and on the PS1. Tips on not dying? Always be moving around.

I'm heavily considering getting the anthology on the PS2, since I had MS3 on the Xbox a while ago, and it was amazing.

Shoot. To. Your. Heart's. Fucking. Content.

Really that's the only way to live.

And yes, Metal Slug is a great great arcade game. Hence why I got the Anthology on the Wii. Its so simplistic yet so awesome at the same time.

My only regret about the Anthology is that it's the same for all the systems it was released for...They had to kill the ratio of the screen, so you get pixels that are wider then others and it becomes very noticeable.

Awesome series. The soldiers have pretty good AI for being total fodder. They hide behind things, react, run, etc (this also means lots of animation).

I love the expressions and little silly things the soldiers do.

I beat Metal Slug X for PS1 with 1 credit and proceeded to do the same thing in an arcade a week later at a bowling alley =\

I think I've played one of these before...
Let's see, MAME? Guess I'll go download that and then get the games.

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't use MAME, although I could be wrong. I just know that it is NeoGeo and that when I played it on my PC back in the day it was a windowed emulator with a shell (Could have been MAME32) Google works but I am too lazy right now.

MAME emulates it just fine. I suggest MAMEUI (formerly MAME32).

Argh, my fingers.

So I just played MS1 and it's fun.

But it needs an autofire feature, pushing the fire key overandoverandoverand... is just agh.

Best advice I could get is play a lot to know where the enemy is coming at. They do basically the same stuff a lot and you get the idea of what will happen next. It's still a fun challenged though to not screw up!

Shame on you for taking so long to love the game though!

Autofire completely kills the game, as Metal Slug Advance has shown

It's ackward and basically makes the pistol into a heavy machinegun

If you actually DO have a powerful enough finger, the Pistol can be a machine gun equivalent because they both do one damage point per shot, the machine gun just fires faster is all.
