There's a Acer Aspire 17" laptop from around 2008-09 at my parents' home that a friend gave me since they had no use for it. I at first installed Arch Linux on it, with i3, but I could not run anything more than a few terminals on it as the 768MB of RAM filled quickly.
I got the idea to install XP on it; it's the only 32-bit computer in the house and it would be fun to rerun the batch scripts I used to write and post on a French Code Lyoko fan forum. Those scripts are what got me into software development, gave me my best friend, and made me move ~700 km away from home just to be geographically close to this friend. I took the opportunity to try out Escargot and rerun old VB.NET projects as well. All of this motivated me to give a little more attention to my 98SE VM. A few weeks ago, I used it to log in via SSH to my brand new server and deploy stuff via Docker, just for the fun of running very recent stuff using older stuff. Anyway, what I would really like now is to also have a Windows 98 SE device, not just a VM. I at first was looking for a smol ThinkPad like the X201T I own, that could run 98SE, and with a ThinkLight because why not. I then stumbled upon the HP Compaq TC1100, a tablet PC that runs Windows 98SE. I saw some people also running XP on it; then I thought: what about a laptop that could dual-boot both 98SE and XP? I cannot currently find any TC1100s that could fit the budget I am allowing myself on this thing. Does anyone here have experience dual-booting 98SE and XP, and could recommend me a laptop? Any size, I won't mind, and tablet is a plus but not required. ____________________ ~lucidiot |
